Covering Sinkholes
February 20, 2014
Read: Psalm 32:1-5
In late May 2010, tropical storm Agatha hit Central America, producing torrential rains and landslides. Once it finished its course, a 200-foot-deep sinkhole opened in downtown Guatemala City. This sinkhole caused the ground to collapse suddenly, sucking land, electrical poles, and a 3-story building into the depths of the earth.
Though sinkholes can be devastating, the most universal and damaging sinkhole is the one that happens in the human heart. King David was an example of this.
The surface of Davids life looked stable; however, his interior life rested on a fragile foundation. After his sins of adultery and murder, David thought he had successfully hidden his treacherous acts (2 Sam. 1112). However, Gods intense conviction after Nathans confrontation caused him to realize that denying the presence of sin in his life weakened the foundation of his spiritual life. To prevent this spiritual sinkhole from worsening, David acknowledged his sin to God in repentance (Ps. 32:5). As a result, God covered Davids sin and gave him the joy of forgiveness.
We too will experience Gods grace when we confess our sins to Him. He will completely forgive and cover our spiritual sinkholes.
Thinking It Over
What habitual sins, secret addictions, or hidden
vulnerabilities are weakening your interior life?
Remember, God longs to give you complete forgiveness.
When we uncover our sins in repentance God will cover them.

Marines Landing At Iwo Jima 19 February 1945
From Today in U.S. Military History:
19 February 1945 Iwo Jima, Japan
"On Iwo Jima, 2 divisions of the US 5th Amphibious Corps are landed in Operation Detachment. Before the landing the bombardment groups already deployed are joined by 2 battleships, several cruisers and destroyers from US Task Force 58. The initial assault forces are from US 4th and 5th Marine Divisions with 3rd Marines in reserve. They are carried transported by TF53 (Admiral Hill) and land on the southeast of the island. About 30,000 men go ashore on the first day. The Japanese garrison of about 21,000 troops, commanded by General Kuribayashi, have prepared exceptionally elaborate and tough defenses so that the eight square miles of the island is completely fortified. The Americans realize that the island is well defended since it is part of metropolitan Japan. However, the island is strategically important because it is within fighter range of Tokyo. By controlling the airfields here, American B-29 bombers flying from the Mariana Islands can be escorted. Coast Guard units that participated in this bloody campaign included the Coast Guard-manned USS Bayfield, Callaway, 14 LSTs and the PC-469. Three of the LSTs were struck by enemy shore fire: LST-792, LST-758, and LST-760." |

Sorry I’m late. The orthopedic office called 30 seconds before posting. I was watching the clock and listening to the call. LOL! They called to say my insurance approved the shots they want to give me....they act as the synovial fluid that is supposed to in the knee joint and can last up to a year. They are EXPENSIVE!! And I need both knees. They should allow me to put off knee replacement for a while.
I need to pick HiJinx’s brain on what to expect when the time comes. I will have to get the replacement done while I’m still working and have insurance, but can hopefully put if off a few years.
