Cornyn declares Cruz a threat to nation, has ‘no regrets’ about voting to raise debt limit

AUSTIN – With early voting opening Tuesday, Feb 18, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn angrily attacked Ted Cruz in an interview with The Austin American Statesman, declaring Cruz “bad for America” and boasting “I don’t have any regret” about voting to raise Obama’s debt limit Feb. 12.

A testy Cornyn, speaking with the liberal newspaper last week, declared Cruz’s opposition to raising Obama’s debt limit “bad for the economy, bad for the American people.” Cornyn continued to attack Cruz, telling reporters “he chose the ugly alternative” when Cruz announced he would not support an increase in Obama’s debt limit.

Cornyn faces conservative Republican U.S. Congressman Steve Stockman in the Republican primary. A Human Events poll released Monday shows Cornyn will not win the primary, and would face Stockman in a runoff. Early voting starts today.

In January, Cornyn also attacked Cruz in an interview with “Texas Monthly,” telling the magazine he had hoped he “taught a lesson” to Cruz by voting to kill his filibuster of Obamacare.

“I hope we’ll be less confrontational,” said Cornyn, who voted with Democrats twice to fully fund Obamacare.

“If 41 Republicans had stood together and just voted `no,’ the clean debt ceiling, the bank check President Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi want, would have been denied,” Cruz said on Marc Levin’s radio show Thursday night.

When asked by the paper if he was worried about angering Republicans by voting with Democrats again, Cornyn stated “It was certainly an uncomfortable moment, but I don’t have any regret about the decision.” Cornyn told the paper that voting with Obama is a sign Republicans “are capable of governing.”

This is on the Stockman website. There is no corroborating story on the Statesman site. The telling part of this story is that he quotes Cornyn saying “I don’t have any regret” about voting to raise Obama’s debt limit Feb. 12.” The fact is he voted FOR cloture and AGAINST raising the ceiling. While the results is the same, Cornyn would never say that he voted for raising the ceiling. Anything appearing on Stockmans website is suspect. This is why he is not a viable candidate. He makes unsubstantiated claims. He is a loose cannon. VOTE FOR STOVALL. If it is a Cornyn/Stockman runoff Cornyn wins.

Exactly. This is a typical Stockman ploy and you’ll see this published daily throughout the
early voting period. I expect they send it to various media outlets and some may use portions of it.

Cruz NOW, more than ever.

He’s doing it right and it’s easy to tell. Democrats and lazy ass Republicans hate him. Keep going Senator! America needs you.

"has ‘no regrets’ about voting to raise debt limit"

Sounds like a fitting epitaph for a political career.

" Stabbing conservatives in the back we can see clearly."

Every time Cornyn shows up to an event here in Texas a group of protesters should be there singing The Eyes of Texas.

Stovall is the one we need, Stockman is just another Cornyn(Crony-man) a professional politician saying anything but doing something else ounce elected.

Cornyn ... has ‘no regrets’ about voting to raise debt limit

What? Just a few days ago he was bragging that he had voted against the debt limit increase, conveniently forgetting that he had voted "yes" in the cloture vote which was the only meaningful one. I guess the story that he was against the debt limit increase proved untenable so now he's proud of his vote.

If these comments don’t cost Cornyn a couple of points in the primary then nothing will. I’m sure a certain percentage of his support came from Cruz supporters and he just alientated them.

That’s Stockman’s style- he was claiming earlier that he had been endorsed by Louie Gohmert- Total BS, and since removed from Stockman’s website.

It's on like Donkey Kong.

The line between the 2 sides is very clear.

One side is the problem and the other side is the solution.

Who are you going to choose, the business as usual eunuch who is complicit in the ruin of our nation cooperating with the enemy, or the fighter and reformer who walks the talk?

Our enemy has gone beyond ideological. They are traitors.

Also, the headline is misleading. I don't see where Cornhole literally said that "Cruz is a threat to the nation". I plan to vote this week for Stovall.

BTW, is there anybody in particular who stands out as a good replacement for Do-Worst as LG?

Yep.

The GOP Establishment is nothing better than being the Benedict Arnold Wing of the GOP.

Hey, they have declared War on US. At least the RATs have enough “integrity” to be honest about their desire to trash our country.

It the debt ceiling is so bad for the country, why did Cornyn vote yes
in the procedural vote and then vote no?
