After unprecedented interference from politicians and out-of-state extremists like Grover Norquist and the Koch brothers, workers at Volkswagens Chattanooga, Tenn., plant voted 712626 against representation by the UAW that would have led to the establishment of a works council, the first such model of labor-management relations in the United States.
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says the workers stood up to enormous odds to try to form their own union and to create an historic new model of workplace governance. He adds:
Unconscionably, what should have been a local workplace decision by workers and management was turned into an experiment in new forms of right-wing zealotry over issues having nothing to do with how stakeholders decided for themselves the best way to build automobiles and create a strong Chattanooga community.
While Volkswagen had agreed to remain neutral, Republican lawmakers and right-wing groups mounted a large-scale anti-union attack. UAW Region 8 Director Gary Casteel, who directs the unions southern organizing, says:
Unfortunately, politically motivated third parties threatened the economic future of this facility and the opportunity for workers to create a successful operating model that would grow jobs in Tennessee.
Says UAW President Bob King:
While we certainly would have liked a victory for workers here, we deeply respect the Volkswagen Global Group Works Council, Volkswagen management and IG Metall for doing their best to create a free and open atmosphere for workers to exercise their basic human right to form a union.
Trumka says:
But, make no mistake, the closeness of the results and the courage and tenacity of union supporters prove that this election is a minor setback, and not a permanent defeat.
Always remember..... Richard Trumka is a terrorist
He led the UMWA reign of terror during the miners strike in South West Virginia in 1988/89
Right-Wing Zealotry = The American instinct for self-rule.
Hey Trumped-up. That’s what happens when you try to invade a right wing state.
Take your union thuggery up North.
Dissent is not patriotic! Dissent is treason!
I fully expect his NLRB to throw this vote out at some point. The UAW is doing everything they can without “going strongly negative” to unionize in Tennessee and Alabama.
(not saying I’m disagreeing with you, PJ, just reminding folks of the Hildabeast’s hypocracy...)
Maybe the fact that non- union workers in the VW plant make more per hour than his thugs in UAW plants up north had something to do with the vote...
LOL Had the voting been reversed, the union goons would have called this vote a mandate.

Oh boo f’n hoo, Trumka.
I'm not sure about that simply because part of the agreement was for the UAW not to target this plant for a year once they voted...
Though VW management may be pro - union to a point...just how much crap do you think they will put up from the UAW...?
I'm thinking not much...
Of course I could be completely wrong and Obama already has his NRLB stooges writing up their opinions...
And now he’s left all of his UMWA buddies in the wind. His God Obama will destroy their livelihoods and communities in his War on Coal. Nemacolin and all the little mine towns like it will die.
He made his bones on the backs of his union miners at Peabody and Pittston but now they are dog sh*t to him.
I’d say ‘serves them right’ but it’s just too damn sad. Oh well, maybe they can find jobs in the shale - but they aren’t union.
I love these satirical fake news sites. They are really funny. Can you imagine how stupid these guys would look if they had really said this stuff?
Peabody........
I read this week that the TVA Paradise plant that ran on Peabody coal is refurbished for Natural gas.
I guess Mr Peabody’s coal trucks didn’t haul all of Mulenberg county away
