NEW YORK - Writer Jen Singer, the mother of two teenage boys, wrestles with her grocery list every week to keep the household budget from getting away from her.
"I'd like the government to stop by my house, come food shopping with me and see where the real costs are," she said.
The adage "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is impossible thanks to apple prices, she said.
"We go through one of these every few days," she said, holding a loaf of bread. "It's a big part of my take home pay."

I make my own bread as well, and although making most of your meals from scratch helps stretch the food budget, even the basics are increasing in price at a depressing rate.
Target brand bread has gone up around 30% or so in the last two years.
We have enough fees! Put them in place and you can be sure they will “need” to raise them in 2 years. More fees and taxes are NOT the answer.
And this does not even address the possibility of a trade war.
Wonder who she voted for? Lemme guess ...

I couldn’t imagine how people under 30 can hope to start families in this environment; apparently they just don’t...
And this morning BJ’s was charging $2.99 for two loaves of bread! That’s $1.50 a loaf and a whopping 50% increase inside a year. Unbelievable!
