A day after a Florida jury deadlocked on a murder charge in the so-called "loud music" trial, the highest-ranking African-American member of Congress said the case is more proof that race does matter in America and in its courtrooms.
Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, the House's assistant Democratic leader, made the remarks Sunday after serving as a guest speaker, celebrating Black History Month, at St. Luke Baptist Church in Paterson, the city where he spent his summers working as a teenager and later got married. Sunday would have been the 19th birthday of Jordan Davis, who was killed in November 2012 when a man complaining about loud music fired 10 shots into the SUV where Davis and three other black teenagers were sitting. Michael Dunn, who claimed self-defense, was convicted Saturday night of attempting to murder Davis' three companions. But the jury deadlocked on the murder charge against Dunn, a white, 47-year-old Florida resident. ...
"I'm very, very disappointed about it. I think it's time for us to stop ignoring the fact that race is a very, very important element in our justice system," Clyburn said.
In particular, Clyburn said that the prosecution erred when it failed to introduce into evidence racist letters that Dunn has written in jail, in several instances using the word "thugs" to refer to black men. ....
" St. Luke's pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Clayton, talked in his sermon about the Dunn verdict.
"For the jury to convict him on the lesser charges and not convict him of murder when clearly someone was killed is a travesty of major proportion.... We live in this violent little society where dark skin means we're open prey to any man.... It's still OK to kill black people in some parts of America...."

There is very little in common with the Zimmerman case.
“it’s still OK to kill black people in some parts of America”
Many black people in places like Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Newark, Baltimore and others, apparently feel the same way. What do you propose to do about THAT? /sarcasm
So now “thugs” is a racist word?
Clyburn is the personification of a troglodyte.
He is the most racially directed idiot, on the taxpayer Dole In the U.S.A.
Say it louder - I don't think people can hear you.
Why is it more of a crime when a white guy kills you than when a black guy kills you?
Once again, Angela Corey overcharged. She would have gotten a conviction on second degree murder, because that’s what it was.
Let’s place bets on what he says. 897890789058905890545490 dollars on the table says he goes on and on about how terrifying it is to be black in America and how the Davis case and the Martin case both prove beyond any doubt that blacks are under systematic attach and ethnic cleansing by white, bible believing fascists. Now I don’t have to worry about retirement plans anymore.
I think it has a heck of a lot to do with Zimmerman. Angela Corey is — what? DA? Definitely involved in this. Parents of the young man urged the prosecutors NOT to make it a trial about racism, as they did not think it was. Parents are Christians, are content with the verdict, do think that justice has been done, and are content to let it go. They do NOT want another trial. Where Angela Corey is near, there is big stink.
I wish that these "hair trigger" leftists would actually and rationally take a look at the facts and circumstances of the case before they mindlessly jump in with their preconceived notions of justice!
All the leftists accomplish is to fan the fires of raw racial hatred. There are too many low information decision makers out there!
To be sure, I think Murder 1 has to show that it was premeditated, doesn’t it? Murder 1 charges here would not be easy to prove unless there was proof that Dunn intended to commit murder before the argument over the music started.
I would never use “thugs” to refer to a black male- “zombie” works great, and is completely bi-racial.....
This is so much crap. Corey obviously overcharged with murder I when it was either murder II or manslaughter. When the system works and gives a just result with the perp going away for most of the rest of his life, these vile hustlers are so blinded by their evil racism that they can’t accept a result that mostly favors them.
Although I'm not a lawyer what you say rings familiar. But one can "premeditate" in a second or two.My understanding is that the evidence strongly suggests that the shooter "meditated" for a minute or more.
it is possible but the difficulty is in proving that the killer in question was mentally planning out the murder for that period of time. On this website http://www.crimelibrary.com you can go through the links on the left side and see the different categories to get an idea of the kind of cases that can be tried as 1st degree murder and which do warrant a death penalty.
“Once again, Angela Corey overcharged. She would have gotten a conviction on second degree murder, because thats what it was.”
Exactly. She’s incompetent.
She should be on Obama’s staff.
On the other hand Blacks who say the feel threatened from 20 feet away are allowed to kill unarmed white boys.
Scott was acquitted by a white jury.
No national TV or News coverage, nor local in my area which is only 200 miles east of the killing.
Maybe The Clymer did not hear about the shooting killing of an unarmed white 16 year by a Black man from 20 feet. If he did, I know he would change his bias./S
I don’t care what any of them say since a majority of blacks supported Simpson getting off for murder, and not one black leader spoke against it. Two can play the jury nullification game, giving that that’s what happened, which I don’t in this case.
fat old ass-sittin' poison black grifter
