LOS ANGELES Prosecutors charged former NFL safety Darren Sharper on Friday with raping and drugging two women in California and disclosed he is under investigation in connection with five more drug-related rapes in three other states.
Sharper briefly appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court, where his arraignment was postponed until Feb. 20 at the request of his lawyers. They issued a statement saying he would be exonerated.
Prosecutors then filed a motion to increase Sharper's bail to $10 million and outlined details of investigations involving him in Las Vegas, Tempe, Ariz., and New Orleans.
Sharper has not been charged in the other jurisdictions.
In the bail motion, Los Angeles County Investigator John Maccharella described a pattern in which the former football star met women at clubs or parties and lured them to a hotel room, where they were allegedly drugged and raped.
The motion says the incidents happened in the past five months, with two occurring within a day in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Investigate.
If appropriate, file charges and provide a fair trial with due process.
If guilty, incarcerate 6 feet under the prison encased in a block of solid concrete.

So a football star can’t get laid unless he drugs and rapes?

I remember Jim Brown being charged with rape several times.
He always paid them off or at least that is the only reason I can figure out why the charges were always dropped.

How do you “lure” a woman you meet in a club/bar to your hotel room? In my experience, women you meet in a club who go to your hotel room are happy to join you.
Furthermore, although there are exceptions to the rule most women who go to a guy's hotel room after meeting in a bar or club generally intend to have sex.
This guy is a special kind of dirt-bag. There was probably some other things going on most women wouldn't agree with.

An NFL player... he’s really gotta be messed up, since athletes usually get the babes willingly.

Nice guy, huh? At least he wasn't razzing his teammates and snapping them with wet towels in the locker room.

Los Angeles County Investigator John Maccharella described a pattern in which the former football star met women at clubs or parties and lured them to a hotel room, where they were allegedly drugged and raped. Doesnt make sense to me; if he has already got them to come to his hotel room it is almost a forgone conclusion that they will willingly have sex with him, why bother drugging them?
If for whatever reason they decline to have sex, so what a short trip back to the bar and pick up another girl.
Maybe he is a little bit of a perv and only likes girls that lie there like a corpse.

More evidence of the character-building inherent in the sport. I grew up watching and playing it, so I’m an addict, but I’m not sure the nation wouldn’t be better off one day having baseball and basketball as the only national sports.

So a football star cant get laid unless he drugs and rapes? There are any number of women willing to jump in bed with this guy for the price of a night on the town and a chance at getting half his stuff in a divorce.

I agree with your sentiments, but today the NFL playbook(s) have become so complex that NFL coaching staffs are looking for a LOT more intelligent players. Indeed, that's why NFL scouts are going a lot more to colleges like Stanford, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Duke, and so on, since they know players from these schools probably stand a better chance to master today's highly-complex playbooks. And football players who attend these schools are definitely way less of the "dumb jock" stereotype of the past, and tend to be more well-adjusted in terms of personal life.
