The “racially insensitive” lunch menu chosen to celebrate Black History Month that landed a private all-girls, Catholic high school in the national media spotlight has prompted upcoming diversity training for faculty and students.
The controversial choice of fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread for lunch at Carondelet High School in Northern California sparked immediate outrage and offense when announced on the school’s public address system Monday, the Contra Costa Times reported.
Principal Nancy Libby sent home two letters to parents last week apologizing for the “very unfortunate incident” and said a “communication breakdown” allowed the menu selection to be approved and announced before school officials could stop it.
“I’d like to apologize for this announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members,” Tuesday’s letter read, according to the Times. “Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes, and we indeed work diligently to do just the opposite.”

Bratwurst and sauerkraut for German American month....oops, they don’t celebrate that anymore either.
Eggs rolls and wonton soup for Chinese American month, don’t think this has ever been celebrated.

So I guess one of my favorite restaurants back in Texas that was run by a black family that made AWESOME fried chicken, Mudbug po’ boys, chilled watermelon cubes, AND EVEN KOOL AID ON TAP were racists. Maybe the white paper plates they used were racist. Maybe the fact that I was friends with the whole family made me a racist. Maybe the fact they were trying to fatten me up with cole slaw and fries when Mamma didn’t think I had enough for lunch and would give me extras made us all racist.
I know what it is. Mamma never served corn bread.
Frackin’ liberals. Traditional southern foods enjoyed by Idaho Yankees like me, served by a sweetheart black family restaurant owners, that welcomed me as one of their own makes me a racist.
Yumm. Makes me want to get on a plane and have lunch.
Every year someone ignorant of soul food and black American history makes an idiot of themselves. It’ll happen next year too!

Funny how an attempt to celebrate a culture turns out to be an “insult”.
The only way that can be is if the culture that is intended to be celebrated is inherently ashamed of itself.
