"If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."

Well, yes. But what it really means is that you're about to have a much, much bigger problem. This is a problem entirely caused by a government whose intention is to rule rather than represent. They're stuck. The Dems will dig in their heels and never allow a syllable to be rescinded lest it threaten their power, and the public will increasingly disregard the law. Examples will be made on a few unfortunate gun owners and the people will dig in their heels in turn. It's an impasse. I'm minded of the fellow named Parker who said, "If it has to begin, let it begin here."

“I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register,”

If you register your firearms, you are just preparing for the day that you will turn them in.

And? Untold millions have flouted our immigration laws for decades, and y’all want to reward them. Double standard again?

“all of them are committing Class D felonies.”

Make everything a felony and then lament the fact that felons can’t vote. The liberal way.

Those that complied should be ashamed of themselves. Did they really think they would be rounded up and put in jail if they didn’t?

Traitors to their country and Constitution in my opinion.

What needs to happen now is that some individuals who may or may not own such weapons, and who live in a conservative part of the state, should bravely step forward and admit they are violating the law, and they intend to continue to do so. Daring the state to arrest them.

And refuse to give the state their weapon when the state demands they do so. After making lots of videos showing them handling and even using their weapons in identifiable parts of the state.

The intent being a trial ending in jury nullification.

And they and their supporters need to take every opportunity to preach jury nullification of unjust and unconstitutional laws. To rub the state legislatures face in it.

That is real protest.

That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents,

15%

Right in line with the California SKS ban numbers.

50,000 - 350,000. Which means a 50%-88% non-compliance rate. Let them try taking it farther and see if we get to that magic 3% number.

"I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register," said Sen. Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, the ranking GOP senator on the legislature's public safety committee. "If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."

Never issue an order that you know will not be followed.

One question I have had with these newly-illegal guns (the ones that did not become registered)...

Doesn’t that automatically force all of them “underground”. That means that they can never be sold legally again. They will go from one illegal hand to the next illegal hand. The State has just driven 350,000 or so guns (from the article) guns into the hands of “criminals”.

I wonder how many policemen will die before they start refusing to enforce this law?
