Research Triangle Park, N.C. Dispatches from the firing line at IBM:
"People broke down after seeing the inhuman treatment. Laptops along with the cases were confiscated, so several employees were seen crying and exiting building carrying and balancing their personal belongings with their two hands."
"IBM STG INDIA is doing RA and it is very deep and numbers are huge."
"Just heard from a colleague in Bangalore that job cuts there have begun. Workers asked to leave on the spot. He claims 6 out of 23 people in his department."
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - IBM's latest $1 billion "rebalancing," as described by its CFO last month, is underway. And the first country hit is India, based on reports from Blue Blue workers there on Tuesday. The so-called "Resource Action" struck in the country where IBM reportedly employs its greatest number of workers.
One employee describes the layoff process as a "slaughter."
The business unit hit is the Systems Technology Group - IBM's troubled hardware group which is selling its low-end x86 server business to Lenovo for $2.3 billion.

Did they get Bammie’s permission for these layoffs? Swear on oath of perjury that they’re not being disrespectful to the Fascist-in-chief?
But Lotus Notes will stay alive. I guess it would take shuttering IBM completely to kill off that horrid software.

I never cried when I got laid off.
Besides, these people just need to listen to democrats to learn unemployment is super fun.
The mid size company I worked for used Lotus Notes extensively. Want something worse? We moved to Oracle. Notes then had to serve as a patch for the things that didn’t work in Oracle. In comparison, Notes was a blessing.
At least Oracle moved on to another triumph in Oregon with the health insurance portal. LOL.
Didn’t you get the memo? They are not layoffs, they are “liberations”.
Never tangled with Oracle and it must be awful to make Notes look good.
The Notes calls I get on the laptops either take a few minutes to fix or the installation and patch has to be blown away a couple of times and reinstalled if the fixes I’ve learned the hard way don’t work.
90% of everyone else uses Notes in Citrix and is a very straight forward setup.
My main notes headache is one of my remote users with a laptop less than a year old. Notes takes about 20 minutes or so to load up last I heard from him. It did it before. I did the uninstall/reinstall thing since the guy was around only a couple of hours.
Even with the cheat sheet, I could not see this person installing notes again in another part of the country.
Yes, I can hear the joyous chorus of now liberated former workers in India tucking in their children.
Myself, I am thankful to the Lord I have job lock and have not been liberated.
I was pretty much just a Notes user but I worked pretty closely with a programmer to set up a few databases. No real issues but Oracle had us tearing our hair out. Everything broke after release from testing.
My company uses Oracle for some functions. Most of what I deal with, as far as manufacturing is concerned, is done in GEMS.
And the Free Trader Globalists keep telling us Free Trade works...
These companies now have to lay off the underskilled, underpaid Indians hired to replaced the skilled, better compensated Americans.
Just saw an article today that Oregon expects its first exchange enrollee by the end of the week (probably won't happen).
There’s still an IBM?
If you want to see me curl up into a fetal position and cry, just mention the word “Netware”
Now they’ll have more time to spend with their families, it’s a blessing.
I knew someone who lost her job when the treasury agents came into the place, flicked the lights and told everybody to take their belongings and leave. They closed the place down over federal taxes.
She said she left there, remembering to bring her coat and her purse, and went directly to the Ritz bar.
They fortunately avoided “job lock”. Now they can write poetry or play a musical instrument. Such great luck!
