Senate Republican leaders Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Cornyn of Texas on Wednesday voted to advance legislation that would increase the nations borrowing capacity but not before they spent 40 minutes of the open vote trying to get others to do it for them, likely out of fear of the conservative blowback that came almost immediately.
Earlier this week, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, demanded the 60-vote procedural move, which put McConnell and Cornyn in the uncomfortable position of having to find five Republicans to join Democrats in supporting the debt ceiling measure. By doing so, Cruz gave perfect fodder to tea party groups and candidates, like the Senate Conservatives Fund and McConnell opponent Matt Bevin, against in-cycle Republicans who would need to vote for the bill as opposed to just letting Democrats do it themselves with a simple majority.
Within minutes, the two leaders were getting hit on social media by their opponents.

Rep. Steve Stockman @StockmanSenate Follow John Cornyn just voted to kill Ted Cruz's filibuster and raise the debt limit. #tcot #teaparty #gop #republican #txsen #txlege #txgop

And just enough republicans voted for it to pass it. Isn’t that convenient.
It’s amazing that McLaim didn’t call Linda out for the TEA Party ‘ho (wacko bird) that she has become.
“Cant wait to show John Wayne McCornyn the door. He is toast.”
I left him a message today that told him I expected him to support his fellow Texas Senator in not removing the debt ceiling or will be very very disappointed
Yeah. And Cornyn will be primaried by Steve Stockman. A true Teas Party Conservative.

Think of it this way:
Cruz forced McConnell and Cornyn to publicly back Reid and 0bamacare against the Republican Grass Roots.
Just like Boner in the House.
The Leadership is now in full revolt against their caucuses, constituents, and parties.
CRUZ WINS THE SET!
I agree, but note the first term Senator made the end run around the Senate minority leadership and almost upset the applecart. I like these guys who stir things up. All Cruz wanted was cloture where EVERY senator would have to vote on the debt ceiling increase.
Why Madge and Cronyn didn't this is beyond me, as there's mid-Terms coming up
"In 1975 the Democratic-controlled Senate[5] revised its cloture rule so that three-fifths of the senators sworn (usually 60 senators) could limit debate, except on votes to change Senate rules, which require two-thirds to invoke cloture.[19][20]
The Senate experimented with a rule to remove the need to speak on the floor to filibuster ("talking filibuster"), thus allowing for "virtual filibusters".[21]
Another type of filibuster used in the Senate, the post-cloture filibuster (using points of order to consume time, since they are not counted as part of the limited time provided for debate), was eliminated as an effective delay technique by a rule change in 1979.[22][23][24]"
The poster CHILD list of what is wrong with the US political system... Does anyone really think that all these TRAITORS would be Senators without the 17th amendment?
Voting is no longer enough... Jeff Flake anyone?
We MUST repeal the 17th & have TERM LIMITS...

Evidently he didn’t get your message.
I hope he’s ready for our message on 4 March.
GOD BLESS TEXAS!
The mad rush to the insignificance of the Republican Party continues. Obama must be wetting his Depends regularly out of pure joy. We know that San Fran Nan and ‘Searchlight’ Harry Reid have been doing so for years now.
My plank is very short. Cornyn dropped off it before his last election.
Do you really think that Cornyn could lose? I am strong for Stockman. But I just fear that Corny is too strong.....
I sure hope you’re right!
One sure thing about these Establishment RINOs....they really do think that they are bullet-proof. They will merrily go skipping around in a mine field thinking they aren’t going to set one off.
Little do they suspect what is coming to them.
One thing to say it, another to do it. Bevin losing badly last I saw. Now don’t misunderstand, I am rooting HEAVY for Bevin and donating, but that’s gonna take a titanic shift of opinion to make that happen.
Thune has certainly been a GREAT disappointment. He must be channeling McGovern.
If the debt limit isn’t raised then the markets crash. Yeah, yeah, I know, but this country is finished anyway. The progressives have already won. Look at the joke they elected and then re-elected. No point is losing even money to fight a battle one can never win. The young elected Obama. Let him be their problem. The albatross around their necks.
GO TX!!
