Anyone who listened to Republican senators yesterday could tell they were unhappy to be stuck with a "clean" debt limit increase. Oh, not that most of them didn't want to pass it and move on. They did! But it was going to be tough to sell back home. It got tougher after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, shocking absolutely no one, said he'd demand a cloture vote on the bill, one that would require every Democrat and independent and at least five Republicans to suspend the debt limit through the 2014 election.
The plus: A filibuster would put the squeeze on vulnerable Democrats. Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, Kay Hagan, John Walsh, and Mary Landrieu would have to vote for a no-frills debt limit hikenone of them could take a powder. (In 2006 Democrats didn't ask for cloture, and two Republicans on the ballot that year got to vote "no." One of them, Montana's Conrad Burns, lost.)
The minus: See above, re: "five Republicans." The vote was held open for 45 minutes as Harry Reid struggled to break past 58 votes for passage. Finally, Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell and Texas Sen. John Cornyn arrived to vote "aye" and push the bill through.

I was going to chide you for not posting the BARF alert to that headline.
Then I see its a Slate article, so....

See you in the primaries!
The ‘rats love them, why don’t they take them? After they get elected under the ‘rat banner, of course.
Triple Barf Alert:
1. Slate
2. Mitch McConnell
3. John Cornyn
This is The Onion or Scrappleface, right?
If all spending comes from the house and the house has been led by republicans now for a couple years, why have the not allocated money to what we have so we do not have to extend the debt limit?
If they write the legislation for spending and it is written with a limit, we never should have been to this point.
Medved is ecstatic this afternoon about the news.
He’s praising Boehner and McConnell for their “courage”. Sickening.
My first thought: this had to be from Semmens.
Courage? Courage to pass blank check legislation like Pelosi and Reid would?
That IS sickening. EVERY RINO makes me sick to my stomach.
We really need to find out what these guys are being bribed for.
He's right in that they are all failures.
As the Obamedia spin this into a “Profiles in Courage” moment, can you imagine the abuse that they were going to heap on the Republicans had the sell-outs not voted for more debt for our children and generations after them? As soon as you vote the Leftist’s way, you’re okay!

Dear fellow Texan, John Cornyn just voted to raise Obama's debt limit. Yes, moments ago John Cornyn voted with Democrats to give Obama more money to spend. The only time John Cornyn has stood up to Obama was to shake his hand. Even worse, it was a vote to kill Ted Cruz's filibuster. John Cornyn stabbed Ted Cruz in the back, again. And he just voted to let Obama spend billions … [Read More...]
Think of it this way:
Cruz forced McConnell and Cornyn to publicly back Reid and 0bamacare against the Republican Grass Roots.
Just like Boner in the House.
The Leadership is now in full revolt against their caucuses, constituents, and parties.
CRUZ WINS THE SET!
Good boy, Mitchy!!!
Good boy, Johnnie!!!
