These murders were probably more premeditated and planned out than most even though they didn’t know who the victims would be. When this guy walked up and put the bomb beside the kids he chose his victims. Maybe giving him the death penalty for killing his brother would remove the perceived martyrdom.
And if by chance his desire and ours (for application of the death penalty) coincide, so what?
I’d rather he be sentenced to having a leg and an arm blown off and then be executed 5 years later but that would be considered “cruel and unusual”. The anti-DP folks wouldn’t like that any more than they like the idea of killing him outright.

Go for death. His dirtbag attorneys will appeal for years. Put him in the general population while the appeals go on. While he languishes in prison, place him in the position of being repeatedly put into the position by his fellow inmates, as often as possible. If he survives that punishment and doesn’t off himself then slam him into solitary “death watch” for a couple of years to let his abused orifices heal and then put him down.
Pray that the stupid prosecutors don’t try to make the primary charge using a weapon of mass destruction. His little gambit was terrorism but was hardly using a weapon of mass destruction. That is a sure loser. Straight terrorism and murder by way of terrorism should suffice.
