Roland Martin took to the airwaves Monday with his “NewsOne Now” panel to discuss the coming out of football player Michael Sam. The discussion took many turns, including into Martin’s insistence that Sam’s position not be compared to that of Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in baseball.
“On Twitter last night I talked about Jackie Robinson and folks are always making the comparisons,” said Martin. “I’m very clear: Jackie Robinson was the first black player. He came into the league when racism…you can’t even remotely compare it. Sam is potentially coming into the NFL with a support system, folks are backing it. You didn’t have any blacks in major league baseball, no front offices. They were cussin’, dogging, trying to kill Jackie Robinson from day one.”
Panelist Hughey Newsome agreed that the country has come a long way in terms of LGBT acceptance and supposed that the NFL is “ready” for an openly gay player but fellow panelist Steve Clemons pushed back, offering that not all Americans have come as far.
“That problem still is out there in the Unites States, so I don’t want to minimize it,” said Clemons. “We’re further along but we’re further along in urban centers. We’re not further along out in middle America.”
I said exactly the same thing to a friend of mine yesterday and he didn't believe me. I said that if Sam isn't drafted high, his backers will scream 'homophobia'. If he gets cut, they'll scream the same.
Question:
Does he think that his cultural popsition as a black man is no longer relevant so that he needs to announce his “love of buggery”?
Really, will Blacks across America start crying “black homophobia” when they don’t get what is expected?

Say he makes a team and plays. I wonder what’s gonna happen when somebody injures him with a cheap shot, helmet to helmet or some kinda other illegal move. Will there be charges leveled, maybe even in the criminal justice system? Wouldn’t surprise me, esp if the player doing the hitting isn’t shy about the despicable behavior of these men.
Be careful NFL, you just might go further down the already well traveled road to your ultimate destruction. Nobody who loves their children will be watching pro football if this is what is on there being openly discussed. Who the heck wants to talk about this stuff with their curious 7 yo child?

Either way he will be set to make a lot of money and fame.
If he makes the team, every personal foul against him will be labeled as ‘hate foul’ by some. I wouldn’t be surprised if commissioner comes up with the new rules for this ‘hate foul’.

You are correct. There are still Christians and other Americans that has some decency and common sense and morals. So homosexuals still have a problem besides their mental illness............

FYI, Larry Elder expressed a similar similar opinion regarding the foolishness of comparing Sam to Robinson.
