Kentucky Senate race 2014: Matt Bevin, Mitch McConnell and TARP (Bevin supported TARP)
Politico ^ | February 11, 2014 | Josh Bresnahan

Matt Bevin, who is challenging Sen. Mitch McConnell in a Republican primary, calls the 2008 federal bailout of banks and Wall Street giants “irresponsible” and says he would have opposed it as a senator. Yet back in 2008, as an investment fund president, Bevin backed the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, as well as the government takeover of troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. McConnell supported TARP, and the Bevin campaign repeatedly reminds voters that the Senate minority leader calls that vote “one of the finest moments in the history of the Senate.”

Bevin, I think, can learn from the experience. McConnell has demonstrated by repeated action that he cannot or will not.

Every time I see or hear of a 'new kid in town' type politician, there always seems to follow some negative or "unAmerican" report of things in their past.

I think that just points at an oppotunistic person rather than an evil one .... and opportunistic is JUST what we have NOW.

My opinion.

As a whole, who would you rather have in the senate, Bevin or McConnell? I don’t expect any politician, even ones I support, to be ideologically pure. That’s too much expect. One thing is clear. McConnell has got to go.

A lot of people supported TARP out of Loyalty to the GOP, misguided loyalty they now know better as the GOP is their enemy now...

The GOP has lost a LOT of Loyalty recently because they have been stabbing so many people in the back...

Bevin just explained it. It’s not his signature of approval. It’s an opinion of an advisor to the fund that he signed off on in his official position. Not an endorsement or personal opinion.

Bevin is on Beck now - he has a very good explanation why his signature was on that commentary supporting TARP. In other words, its a BS charge.

McConnell may have been on our side in the past, but he clearly isn’t now. Also, thirty years in office is too long for anyone. If Bevin doesn’t win in the primaries, this could be the first time I ever vote for a Democrat.

Precisely the point. People quickly forget how bad the panic was in 2008. A lot of otherwise level-headed people were stampeded into supporting TARP unconditionally.

According to Bevin he was required by law to endorse with a signature the figures on the advisor’s statement.

Just listened to him on Beck, According to Bevin, by law he had to sign it to vouch for the financial figures, not the comentary. Had he not signed, or tried to alter/modify commentary he would have been in deep doodoo with the regulatory scum, aka Sarbains/Oxley.

This has got that BASTARD ROVE’S fingerprints all over it.

Yet back in 2008, as an investment fund president,...

So, as a president of a fund Bevin was responsible to his investors. And their money was at risk due to the malfeasance and IMO criminal malfeasance of both government and bank regulators.

So Bevin was supposed to come out against TARP which was passed to insure his investors?

What is Bevin's position on what should happen to the Banksters that pulled this heist on the American people? Is he for prosecution?

What was McConnell's excuse?

Hmmmm, I wonder which person in the McConnell camp leaked this to Politico.

Aw geez.... what next?!

Bevin’s comment just didn’t pass the smell test. If he was in fact the CEO, he has control over who he hires - even if he doesn’t write the Annual reports...

I wasn’t happy with Bevin’s ‘spin’ nor with Beck & crew’s apparent willingness to accept it.

Even that jerk Congressman Brad Sherman (Rat-CA) opposed TARP from the beginning. I gave him credit for that small, correct political position (but would never vote for him)!
