In an abrupt switch from his months of work to bring immigration reform back from life support, Speaker John Boehner told reporters today that the issue cannot move forward until President Obama proves he can be a trustworthy partner to implement the law as written.
There's widespread doubt about whether this administration can be trusted to enforce our laws. And it's going to be difficult to move any immigration legislation until that changes, Boehner said.
The change in tack comes after rank-and-file members pushed hard against action on the issue this year when immigration principles when unveiled at a retreat last week and top immigration hawks had begun to discuss how they could thwart Boehner in his march to bring the issue to the floor.
In the hours before Boehner made his surprise announcement, lawmakers and aides had told Breitbart News that early discussions had begun about whether to force a special leadership election in the event Boehner moved forward with immigration legislation.
Its going to require blood if this happens, one GOP member said.

Well, I guess the unicorns have spoken.
I don’t know what is going on but the Wall Street Journal offices are CLOSED today?
He responds to pressure from grass roots. Good. Put on more.
Anger building?
We’ve been furious since he announced his plans, so how exactly is it that anger could build?
After months or years, this jackass finally heard us on this one issue.
Heaven only knows how many centuries it would take him to hear us on all the others.
Retire this..., well never-mind.
Bloody jackass idiot. And this surprises him, after the last ten times he tried it? Whether he drops it or not, a lot of damage has been done. Which, I suppose, was his purpose.
Brakes?
Was the vehicle ever moving or was it all just talk?
Who runs Bartertown, Boehner?
Good. Perhaps the Tea Party is calling the shots. Now let’s nominate Ted Cruz as our candidate.
‘In an abrupt switch from his months of work to bring immigration...’
This is propaganda pure and simple. He’s done no such thing. This is a ‘quiet’ time while he and the dems figure out how to ram it thru under the cover of darkness on a w/e or holiday and how to keep it under wraps until then.
Boehner is desparate to save his job or rather the humiliation of getting kicked out by his own party.
Freepers should be proud of the role we have played in this attempted power play by the Vichy Republicans
Sure the brakes are on. Just like the light bulb ban, when people learned about it and made noise, the ban was rescinded, ten guess what! It was put back in when nobody was looking.
Expect the same with amnesty for criminals.
I still don’t believe him. I think he’s saying what he has to say for public consumption, but these “representatives” don’t represent anyone except the lobbyists who fatten their bank accounts. I don’t doubt for a minute that behind the scenes, they’ll still be weaseling ways to push this down America’s throat. They saw the ‘rats get away with it with CommieCare, now they know it can be done, especially since both sides in DC want it.
“There’s widespread doubt about whether this administration can be trusted to enforce our laws. And it’s going to be difficult to move any immigration legislation until that changes, Boehner said.”
He still doesn’t get it. The statement above is true in general about anything involving Obama but is NOT the reason we should oppose amnesty. Obama picks up phone and calls Boehner and says he “promises” he will enforce the law and then this all goes away and amnesty is on again. :-)
All Obamacare all the time - will lead to major gains in the House and winning back the Senate.
Kill the lame duck before it heals.
Exactly. They haven’t stopped pushing this for decades now, they want it bad, and their backers are losing patience, considering all the money they’ve forked out over the years to get it. The incumbents don’t need to care if they ever get the majority or the White House again, as long as they keep their own jobs. Which, looking at the likes of McCain and Lindsey Graham, they seem to be able to do just fine.
I wonder if the evil Tea Party people made Boehner cry?
John “the Weathervane” Boehner.
He’s a lyin.
