An unusual coalition of lawmakers from both parties, labor and business leaders, veterans groups and Canada's ambassador to the United States joined forces Tuesday to push for quick approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Five Democrats joined Republicans at a Capitol news conference to urge President Barack Obama to approve the pipeline following a State Department report last week that raised no major environmental objections. The $7 billion pipeline would carry oil from tar sands in western Canada to refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast. The project has lingered for more than five years and has become a symbol of the political debate over climate change.
Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer also spoke at the news conference, along with labor union officials and a retired Navy admiral. A top oil industry lobbyist attended the event but did not speak.
Environmental groups that oppose the pipeline have been making a lot of "noise," Doer said, but polls show a majority of Americans favor the project. Pipeline opponents, including many Democratic lawmakers, say it would carry heavy oil that contributes to global warming. They also worry about a spill. . .

It’s so silly that these people think they can do a single thing to change Obama’s mind. Keystone is going to get stalled for as long as possible.
Without the Keystone XL, fuel prices will be much higher in the near future for recipients of government incomes, government contractors, journalists, all.

As broad as the coalition may be, it lacks on important member - the Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut. Inconvenient though it is, he is not and never intends to get on board with the rest of the residents of that territory once known as “the United States of America”.
I cannot grasp that there are enviormental wackos who support eagle-killing wind power, but want to stop an initiative that will keep eagles in the air and oil underground for shipping rather than on trucks and trains.
He’ll approve it once he sucks as much graft out from the industry!
The not-in-my-back-yard folks (NIMBYs) have often posed as environmentalists to keep everyone and everything else out of their neighborhoods, including other property owners who want to build their homes and produce useful things. As for retarded birds that run into things, trash cans should be installed under wind turbines to cut down on littering.

Someone said the Keystone approval has taken longer than it took to win World War II.
Obama used this time to bilk campaign contributions from both energy companies on one side, and environmental Nazis on the other. Follow the money and you will understand the tyranny.
And the environmental lobby. Play one off against the other and pocket the dough.
