I took a sick day and stayed home; not to avoid the parade, I’m actually sick.

Watching it on Q13. They’re saying more like 700,000 people. Glad I don’t have to try and commute home from downtown tonight!

Do you know what connection Seattle, the Hawks, and their fans have to or with skittles candies?

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch considers skittles his favorite candy, so I guess so do some fans :-)

Okay, thanks. I had hoped it was something like that....and not some sort of ‘tribute’ to that gang banger street punk thug Travon Martin and his skittles connection.

It’s not as if Seattle is the first city to have a parade honoring a championship sports team - it is what every city does. And regarding a comment by another poster suggesting that Seattle is the marijuana capital of the country, can anyone with a straight face claim that there aren’t tens of thousands of people in Alabama and Tennessee and Oklahoma smoking pot? And getting drunk, and divorced, and having abortions and gay sex?

700,000 people

It was a real big crowd, but these estimates are always inflated. 700,000 would be one-in-five people in the entire state. I'd guess 200,000-300,000 people, including those at Safeco and CenturyLink stadiums.

Goodness, no. Lynch eats skittles after he scores a touchdown. The fans noticed, and started throwing skittles after every score.

He just got an endorsement deal with them. Nothing whatsoever to do with Trayvon Martin.

I am glad to hear that! The Seattle players seem like a good group of young men. I understand their quarterback spends a LARGE amount of his free time doing what he can for the kids, and talking with their parents, at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital. That counts one heck of a lot in my book.

If Seattle gave a parade to honor Jesus Christ, how many people do you think would show up?

"If Seattle gave a parade to honor Jesus Christ, how many people do you think would show up?"

Is there any city in the country in which 300,000 people would show up for a parade to honor Jesus Christ? If your point is about the decline of religion, or about misplaced priorities, ok, point well-taken, but if it is about Seattle specifically, you are off base.

Russell Wilson is very religious. Not only does he visit the children's hospital every week, but he prays for the children without embarrassment. And he is so well-liked up here, that even in heathen Seattle I have never heard anyone criticize him for this.

My point has nothing to do with Seattle, per se, but mainly in regard to the religious zealotry of sport worshipers.

Can I ask you why you felt it necessary to join with 200,000 other fanatics to honor a bunch of guys who did nothing more honorable than just doing their jobs?

Would you attend a parade given for janitors who cleaned up your office really well every day for a year? How about a parade for the dedicated trash collectors who come to your driveway every week and proudly carry away your trash?

What did these guys do for you that made it imperative that you give up your day to honor them?

Well, I wasn't at the parade - it was mostly people under 35, probably mostly under 30. It's called "community spirit," and you would have to ask psychologists why people rally around sports teams and identify with them. I'd rather have 200,000 people in Seattle rally around the Sahawks than rally around Obama or some other politician.

Either way, the Taxpayers foot the bill.

WA state is close to 7 million (2013 figures) and the city of Seattle (not metro) is only about 634k. King County - Seattle and some of the surrounding towns and burbs is a little over 2M. Some people did actually work today ;-)

We were at Century Link and watching the parade on the jumbotron. Both the announcers there and ones on the radio on the way home (different station affiliate and different announcers) were saying at least 700k maybe even closer to 1M just on the streets for the parade. And another 100k or more in the 2 stadiums. The crowds at the parade that we saw on the jumbotron were huge - they were 20+ deep in some places, no less that 10 or 12 deep in others, both sides of the street along the entire route.

One radio show host said he walked from his house on Queen Ann (right above where the parade started) and walked the entire route. He couldn’t believe the # of people, including even a block over from the parade route. He estimated that there were close to 100k just at the end of the parade in the CLINK parking lot and nearby. They said a few thousand were turned away from the parade as there wasn’t any more room (not sure which part of the route they were trying to get to). Also, police were out in big numbers, everyone was happy and cordial - no issues and no arrests. There was 1 guy here from Atlanta, a couple of ladies from Cheyenne, WY, Alaska and from all over the state. I read that there were separate celebrations in Olympia and IIRC Spokane.

Here’s some pictures and a video:

I’m having connection problems right now, so haven’t been able to view the videos and photos but there are some here as well: http://www.seahawks.com/

It was cold but a great day to be a Hawks fan :-)

“Either way, the Taxpayers foot the bill.”

Actually,I heard on the radio coming home last night that the Seahawks were footing the bill for the parade, including paying for overtime for police officers. But I agree with you about politicians — taxpayers absolutely foot the bill for them and all their whims (e.g., legislation).

That’s true about Russell. There are other guys on the team that are very religious, too. IIRC it was Malcolm Smith that mentioned God at the SB when accepting the MVP award.

I can’t find the quote right now, but John Schneider(GM) mentioned God at the beginning of his speech at Centurylink today. I know that Russell has also mentioned God in his speeches, including the recent ones.

As I said before, I don’t think we’re worshipping the Seahawks or any other sports figure, and I certainly don’t look to them as a “hero” - - today was just a day of celebration. In fact, when some media person mentioned being heroes to 1 of the Seahawks in the last few days, he said we’re not heroes, it’s the military guys (and I think he added police and firefighters) that are heroes.

It was a nice day - all ages from very young in strollers to over 60. Just a day of celebration for a long-awaited big win :-)

Sounds like you had a good time. If this had been a Los Angeles victory, the town would have been burned to the ground.

Thank God we don't have any NFL teams in LA.

Some thing Seattle media has been resisting on reporting about is the fact that this is the Pastor that Wilson and some others on the team have been listening to. “Controversial” IE anti Gay, Conservative. Mars Hill.

The persecution of their faith is coming.
