The Red Hot Chili Peppers decided long ago they were never going to mime a live performance. The band made an exception for the NFL, it turns out.
The groups bassist, Flea, said in a letter to fans posted on the groups website Tuesday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members pretended to play along to a pre-taped track of Give It Away during the Super Bowl halftime show as Anthony Kiedis sang live. The request came from NFL officials who felt it was too difficult to pull off a completely live performance because of potential sound issues.

No surprise. You can’t set up and take down the equipment for a live performance in the time they had during the halftime show.
wait, there was a show at halftime?
I knew it was fake. Musicians can’t leap/run around like that while playing, without majorly screwing it up. If anyone could even halfway pull it off, it would be “Flea”, and he was even going overboard jumping around.
Do football fans really like boy bands or shirtless tattoo freaks? What popular tripe. I’ll wait for the superior geriatric styling of the Stones or The Who.
So do they loose their Grammy Awards? IIRC, Milli Vanilli got whacked for this very thing.
Total filthy trash! There were kids watching that show.
It looked like something the whole band was all quite familiar and comfortable with.
Did the NFL request that Denver fake it too???
I’ll watch the half time show when a band like Lynyrd Skynyrd plays.
There’s a good picture of Flea on stage during the halftime show, where it is obvious there in nothing plugged into his bass output jack. Air bass indeed, just with a very nice prop.
Here, found it:

Wait! There was a football game? :-)
Don’t they all mime nowadays??? What’s the surprise???
Milli Vanilli got whacked for lip syncing EVERYTHING, not just performances. The albums were all done by different artists. It’s like they sang under a pseudonym.
Change the name to Chilli Vanilli.

Tattoo freaks is a great description.
What is it with American culture today that makes men and women slather their bodies in Tattoos?
I watch a lot of the History Channel programs. Most every woman in the shows are covered in tattoos. It is vile. It is disgusting. It is as ugly as ugly can get!!!
I’ve always doubted “live performances” such as this and seen on GMA. I don’t see how they can produce studio quality sound on a live stage.......
Geeez. Obama faked an interview. The Broncos faked being a football team and now this. What’s this world coming to?
Umm No, Milli Vanilli got whacked because they NEVER sang their songs in the first place. Other artists recorded the music and they where nothing but a completely fraudulent front.
Plus, if you read the article you will see that the singer was actually singing, he was just singing to a backing track while the band members pretended to play.
This is breaking news ?
Some things are just sad. Breaking news, really ?
