The Red Hot Chili Peppers decided long ago they were never going to mime a live performance. The band made an exception for the NFL, it turns out.
The groups bassist, Flea, said in a letter to fans posted on the groups website Tuesday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members pretended to play along to a pre-taped track of Give It Away during the Super Bowl halftime show as Anthony Kiedis sang live. The request came from NFL officials who felt it was too difficult to pull off a completely live performance because of potential sound issues.

Wife asked me “Why is he called ‘Flea’?” Well, because it’s easier to remember and say than The Anti-Entwistle
No, not really.
Also the National Anthems are usually pre-recorded as well.
Hey, I’m just glad that the halftime show didn’t include Bruno Mars officiating a gay marriage ...
“bring back the marching bands”
Please...they were wonderful. ...and NO DRAMA
Bruno Mars beat out Tom Petty for best ever. The Chili Peppers brought the performance to another level of energy. Then, the touching tribute to our men and women in uniform, and a fitting ballet. A real roller-coaster.
In defense of the pre-recording, I think the artists would have preferred live. It was the suits in the NFL that didn’t want to risk it. Plus, set-up issues. At least in this performance, the live and the pre-recording mixed well. The Madonna half-time show sucked in part because she wasn’t synched with the pre-recorded music.
As for the tribal look of the Chili Peppers, I like the contrast between them and the classy assemble of Bruno Mars. I think the girls appreciate men who take the extra step to look good. To me, the contrast says there should be room in our country for everybody, well, at least a wide range. As for me, I prefer classy performers like Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake. And, while I’m o.k. with edgy, let’s face it, a lot of performers are way over the edge.
Were they wearing socks?
I’m forever near a stereo saying, ‘What the @!!# is this GARBAGE?’ And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” - Nick Cave

agreed.
BREAKING: So Did The Broncos
Did not watch when I knew they were teaming up with the flake bruno mars
No way!!
Bummer, man. Flea, you let me down, man!!!
Just about everything on TV is fake. I mean just about everything, when in doubt, it’s fake in one way or another. As for the tattoos, I am sick and tired of this EVERYWHERE you go. I tell my kids tattoos are permanent mistakes. Don’t make mistakes you are reminded of every single day. Imagine if you got a tattoo of something you really thought was cool in second grade. You’d be really happy about it for about 6 months. Or imagine you could never change the shirt you thought was really neat back then.
“...After this which was not faked it was pretty much all downhill ...”
The Seattle Seahawks CEARTAINLY didn’t fake their game. The Denver Broncos, OTOH, DID.
A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling... ;-)
Was that music? I thought someone was shaving cats.
That’s okay. I faked watching them.
Yeah, I think this time they were. But that's not always the case...
