You might think MSNBC is a pretty friendly venue for Democratic politicians, and usually youd be right. But woe unto the Democrat who strays even slightly from the progressive line as Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow found out the hard way Tuesday afternoon.
Stabenow was in the middle of a victory lap with MSNBCs Alex Wagner, after the agriculture chairs farm bill sailed through the Senate to the presidents desk. The massive bill approves nearly $1 trillion in spending over the next decade, with most of the funding for the food stamp program.
The Democratic senator explained how she was able to convince enough Republicans to jump onto the bill, even after stripping out things like welfare cuts, drug testing and limited maternity leave.
To have credibility, I said, Of course that I would address fraud and misuse, she said. And heres what we did: If you have less than $20 in help for heating assistance in the year less than $20 then the system will go back to an old system where you have to actually produce a utility bill to get a credit for a utility bill.
You cannot justify somebody who is getting a dollar in heating assistance help, to give them a $50 credit for a utility bill that they dont have, she explained. And if were going to protect and fight for additional help which is what I want, to provide additional help for people in Michigan and across the country we have to be credible and be willing to say Yep, youre right when theres something happening that is just not right.
Heresy! Senator, let me interrupt you for a second, Wagner said....

What does Alex Warner look like?? I can only guess....and isn’t he/she getting married to someone in the ADMIN??
Things have changed somewhat in Michigan. You really need independent voters to turn out....to win as a Democrat. So you got to promise some things that a Tea Party person would at least listen to. Otherwise....it’s a lost cause in the state. I wouldn’t have said that in 1990, but things have changed....with folks leaving Detroit, and a shift in political thinking.
A standard debate trick, or. what is more likely here, a standard debate mistake — pretending that “some” equals “all”.
WTH is it??
The real point is that we’re talking about free money, so fraud and waste don’t matter. This is tax money from working people who have too much, so we need to stop worrying about how we waste it.
Okay, I guess, if you like bleeding heart liberals.
The discussion that the Senator had was about fraud and abuse over heating bills and the amount of ‘assistance’.
Warner didn’t even address that. She spoke mainly about it as another way for these poor, poor pitiful people to get money to ‘eat’.
From her bleats, you think that we have children all over this country running around naked in their huts, hungry, covered up with flies and haven’t had any food to eat in weeks.

I saw no video there. Interesting story, though.
"Wagner is engaged to the One's personal chef and "Let's Move" ambassador, Sam Kass".
hmmm...any relation to U Thant, I wonder?
The video is above the headline at the link.
Too bad the morons at MSNBC haven't figured out that the useful idiots NEVER make it to the politburo.
Must not work with firefox. It has “video” in the title, but nothing is clickable. The only thing video related is the video link in the title bar, but that just takes you to their generic video page. There are also lots of large blank spots in the article, like they should have pictures or videos.
Thanks cripplecreek.
