A seismometer inside a borehole at Yellowstone National Park has begun reporting staggering underground activity near the southwest corner of Yellowstone Lake, possibly signaling the beginning of an eruption of the Super Volcano at the Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is home to many beauties, with its ancient landscape, geysers, and hot springs. It is also the site of one of the worlds most destructive forces. A supervolcano.

The last supervolcano eruption in Lake Toba took place more than 70,000 years ago. According to one highly-contested theory it may have wiped out more than half of the planets population; in any case the effect on the world would be dramatic.
“This is something that, as a species, we will eventually have to deal with. It will happen in future,” said Dr Malfait.
“You could compare it to an asteroid impact - the risk at any given time is small, but when it happens the consequences will be catastrophic.”

I remember it in a 1959 National Geographic article - an entire mountainside avalanched down into a ravine, which created a lake, and Old Faithful’s timing was altered. Pictures of kitchens with cupboard contents scattered about. We had just returned from Japan & remembered earthquakes that made everything in the house move about.

We will all surely die if this volcano erupts. No sense losing sleep over it. We have no control over the situation.

Is that the night the mountain fell?

It is nothing to be made fun of, as I see many FReepers doing. It is human nature to make light of the unknown and events totally beyond our control.
An asteroid could hit us and have the same effect (or much much worse). Movies and jokes are made about it all the time.

Thanks, but I don’t think the comparison to Armageddon is correct. The subject of many movies, for sure, but not biblically correct.

I don't think anyone here is making fun of a genuine Yellowstone disaster. Your concern about our nonchalance is kind of overrated, almost any topic brought to its hyperbolic end like this article semi-implies could be made fun of. Too much Coke, too much cold, too much heat, too much CO2, too many hurricanes, tornadoes, radiation, fertilizer, genetic engineering, heck too much of anything can be construed as the next worst thing possible to happen to the world.
It's the over-hyping about everything that is being made fun of. Yellowstone could erupt tomorrow, it could wait another 50,000 years, I think the tiresome drumbeat of fever pitched "could be" is definitely warranting some mockery.
Odumbo's reign of insanity is real, the evidence is in front of us daily. Yelowstone erupting is simply a "possibility" that might happen in the next X thousands of years.

Looks like the seismic activity ended 4am MST on 4/2. That can only mean that it's building pressure. RUN!
