One poll showing him ahead is a fluke. Two polls showing him ahead? We call that “momentum.”
I’m not in the habit of making pledges, but I promise you this: I will never, ever tire of trolling you guys with numbers showing Huck as some sort of contender for the nomination. Ever.
Fourteen percent of Republicans and independents who lean toward the GOP say they would likely support Huckabee for their party’s nomination if he runs.
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is next at 13% followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Christie tied at 10%…
That’s a change from November, when Christie was 11 points ahead of the rest of the field. Huckabee was not tested in the November survey…
“Because Huckabee was not included in the November poll, any drop in Christie’s support among Republicans may be partly due to Huckabee as well as recent news stories. So it’s impossible to calculate exactly how much support Christie lost as a result of the bridge controversy. But it’s a pretty safe bet that the drop in Christie’s support against Clinton is due to the recent news stories about the bridge,” added Holland.
Huck siphoning support from Christie? Hmmm. In PPP’s poll last week, it was Ted Cruz whom he was stealing votes from. That made sense, since they’re both targeting social conservatives; in fact, it was among older voters, who trend more socially conservative, that Huckabee excelled in PPP’s data. CNN didn’t post the crosstabs for today’s survey but I think the pollster’s right that Christie’s dive has less to do with Huck than with Bridgegate exploding his advantage over the rest of the field. If you’re a Huck-hater and you’re looking for a silver lining in data like this possibly luring him into the field, here’s the best I can do: If he won Iowa and Rand Paul won New Hampshire, that’s as close as we’ll ever get to a pure libertarian-versus-social-conservatives battle of ideas in the primaries. I think Rand would win, mainly because he’s a lot more acceptable to Huckabee’s base than Huckabee is to his, but either way it sure would be fun to blog.
By the way, both of them get utterly crushed by Hillary in CNN’s hypothetical 2016 match-ups, 57-39 in Paul’s case and 56-39 in Huck’s. The big news from the poll, though, is that Christie’s now in the same boat. He trails 55-39 after having led her 48-46 as recently as December. In theory, that’s not a fatal wound; all he has to do is get past Bridgegate and start rebuilding his numbers to become Mr. Electable again. But how does he get past Bridgegate when Jersey Democrats are resolved to drag it out as long as possible to wound him? And how does he rebuild his numbers with independents and Democrats as we get closer to 2016 without another storm intervening? Lots of righties, me among them, have pointed out that second-term presidents rarely see their approval rating rebound once it’s nosedived like Obama’s has. I suspect the same is true of governors, especially ones who are tied down by scandal. Even if Christie comes back a little, how much would his numbers need to improve to convince center-righties that he’s worth gambling on for electability reasons more than center-right politicians whom they like better, like Scott Walker or Marco Rubio?
Has nothing to do with Guv Huckabee pardoning a slime who came to Washington State and executed 4 local police? Nah, we just like to pick on innocent RINO’s, yeah that’s it!

I warn you. Huckelbee is a total disaster see post 41. Huckelbee owns that tragedy and because of so, he’ll never, ever become POTUS! He’s a big government loser.

No damn way!
if they run this fool against the hildabeast I’ll just give up.
If you liked Geo. Bush you’ll love Mike Huckabee!!!
Yeh I just love it. Anybody but Ted Cruz or Rand Paul.
“I warn you. Huckelbee is a total disaster see post 41. Huckelbee owns that tragedy and because of so, hell never, ever become POTUS! Hes a big government loser.”
And I more severely warn you. STOP, STOP, STOP, using hyperbole & names (your “Huckelbee” above) in regards to Huckabee. You just drive conservative Christian evangelicals away. We are FULLY aware of his past. I have friends and relatives in Arkansas that like Huckabee - even with errors he made. YOU CANNOT WIN AN ELECTION WITHOUT THE CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN BASE. Huckabee is one of those that appeals to that base. Tick us off with hyperbole and negative attacks...and you lose us. And don’t be so foolish to put forward persons with extreme libertarian views like Rand Paul.
Ronald Reagan made plenty of mistakes, but we all still love him. STOP looking for perfection because it doesn’t exist. Recognize that IF you want to win an election with a Republican....you need one that will energize the Christian conservative base.
Thank you.
I see a Huckabee thread and know the knee-jerking anti-Huck comments will begin in 3, 2, 1.....
Conservatives could do a whole lot worse than electing Huckabee to run. I used to tease these knee-jerks by reminding them that a certain Jim Robinson once supported Mike Huckabee in his candidacy back in 2008.
Listen, fool! There are CHOICES one makes they must own and cannot be pooh-poohed away by the blind or stupid. Huckabee owns the lives of 4 innocent police officers from my neighborhood. I WILL NEVER STOP REMINDING PEOPLE ABOUT HIS INFLUENCE IN THEIR DEATHS!!!
I was raised a Baptist so screw your non-Christian insults, grow up and move away from your cult worship of a charlatan who clearly has your number.
“I was raised a Baptist so screw your non-Christian insults, grow up and move away from your cult worship of a charlatan who clearly has your number.”
You are anti-Baptist....notice your “raised” not “practicing.” So, you do OWN the anti-Christian bigot label...you are one.
I told you that I AM NOT a Huckabee supporter per se. However, your rants over him pardoning are JUST PLAIN WRONG. You are on the same level as the people living near school shootings that spend the rest of their lives attempting to take away firearms from the rest of us. You are on a foolish vendetta that will make NO DIFFERENCE for good.
Blaming murders on Huckabee for issuing a pardon (and I am certain the facts presented to him were compelling)to a later murderer has its limits. There are a whole string of people involved. I am certain that he was acting out of compassion - a CHRISTIAN virtue. So, if you think “compassion” and “mercy” are wrong then you are the antithesis of a conservative Christian. Christ is about second chances, etc. Now in no way am I advocating turning all persons in prison lose...and I DO think that capital punishment is correct when guilt is absolutely certain.
Whatever, those folks that support Huckabee are neighter “blind” nor “stupid”...and they certainly are not into a personality cult. I am certain if one digs deep enough they will find where even Ronald Reagan made some bad calls....which is what Huckabee probably did. He is NOT infallible, nor is anyone else. Mike Huckabee is NOT a huckster...at worst he is someone that once showed bad judgement.
Whatever, you need to GET OVER IT. Also, STOP bad mouthing others (calling them “fools” or “blind”) because they don’t want to ride your vengeance hobby horse. I am truly sorry that peace officers lost their lives in the performance of duty. That is always a tragic thing, and I do NOT wish to minimalize that. I just think you are placing too much blame on the wrong source.
“I see a Huckabee thread and know the knee-jerking anti-Huck comments will begin in 3, 2, 1.....”
Yeah, they get really old fast. There is one whack job that goes by the handle of “Travis McGee” that was really bad about this. He writes pump trash and uses FR to sell it.
Huckabee has made his share of bad calls. However, I don’t know of any contender that has not. I like Cruz and Palin, but I can spot flaws in them as well.
“If you liked Geo. Bush youll love Mike Huckabee!!!”
Actually, I liked both Bush I and Bush II. I see faults with both, but thought they were worlds better than ANY dem that has held office since Truman.
That Travis writes “pump trash” is only your opinion. Many freepers including me enjoy his books and he is a long time poster and entitled to his opinion. I noticed you did not ping him to your comment, which is customary when mentioning another freeper.
You're setting the bar pretty low!!!
“That Travis writes pump trash is only your opinion.”
It IS “trashy pulp fiction” and he uses FR to sell it - this isn’t just opinion, it is self evident. Plus, he uses his past military affiliations to give it legitimacy...which it doesn’t deserve, and to do so makes him less than honorable - my opinion. I don’t ping him because I hold him, and his “literature” in low regard. Normally, I would just ignore his marketing low brow literature, but he has gone out of his way to defame Governor Huckabee.
I am truly sorry you don’t have better tastes in literature. You would be better off reading other trashy pulp fiction - that IS opinion. Better yet, stay away from fiction (especially the trashy variety) and read something worthwhile....like the Bible.
“You’re setting the bar pretty low!!!”
You have to set it low. Their will never be another Ronald Reagan, and I’m not sure that Ronald Reagan was as great as the legend of “Ronald Reagan” most of us have created. President Reagan was just so superior to any other that in our missing him we have made him into a mythical figure.
I’m not sure if the real Ronald Reagan, great POTUS and man he was, would satisfy many here today.
I real all sorts of books, including the Bible...not that it is any of your business what I read. You might want to do some studying to refresh your mind on what Christian behavior towards others is meant to be.
If Travis is doing anything wrong in regards to his books or his opinions of Huckabee here on FR that is Jim Robinson’s business and of no concern to the rest of us.
As to McGee’s military service, he earned that and I am pretty sure you don’t have the power to take it away.
I was really on this thread to read about Huckabee, if you represent him, you are not helping him with your attitude. Any candidate will have supporters and detractors, but when people start being shrill and nasty about other people’s opinions it does not encourage support.
