Mariott, Holiday Inn, Sheraton report credit card breach

A credit card data breach had been detected that exposed guests at certain Marriott, Holiday Inn, Sheraton and other hotel properties to theft, hotel management firm White Lodging Services Corp said on Monday.

The breach occurred at food and beverage outlets at 14 hotels, including some operated under the Westin, Renaissance and Radisson names, between March 20 and Dec. 16 of last year, White Lodging said in a statement.

The company said information subject to potential theft by cyber criminals included names and numbers on consumers' debit or credit cards, security codes and card expiration dates.

Restaurants and lounges affected by the White Lodging breach were located at hotels in Chicago; Austin, Texas; Richmond, Virginia; Plantation, Florida; Denver, Boulder and Broomfield, Colorado; Louisville, Kentucky; Erie, Pennsylvania; and Indianapolis and Merrillville, Indiana, the company said.

On the bright side, these digital crimes, the fear of bail-ins and bank failures, currency controls, privacy concerns and near zero interest rates will halt the march to a cashless society.

There appears to be something going on with Navy Federal credit Union also. This is no small thing, it is in effect the international bank for much of the armed forces. All four digit pass word numbers were arbitrarily changed last week by NFCU without informing members. The site is in chaos and even logging in is a big problem NFCU is tight lipped and won't say anything and it is next to impossible to speak to a real person. It is like NFCU has completely crashed in a little over a week.
