That’s for sure. I read carlo3b’s post twice, and I honestly didn’t get it. I agree he made the point that people should be solely responsible for their decisions. However, I can’t agree that that’s OK either. Let’s say a woman chooses to have her baby. She has no right to obligate us to pay to take care of that child of course, but we should want to help the child regardless. Why? Because that child is a separate and unique person in his or her own right. The same respect for life of the unborn extends to the born. We don’t just wash our hands of it because the mother makes bad choices!
I agree the goal should be “don’t perform the act that results in children unless you are married”.
The current law and social structure, however, incentivizes the exact opposite.
Many on the left, the “sheeperals” as I call them, would vehemently deny that THIS WAS THE ACTUAL GOAL.
But there are many for whom this was first and foremost in their minds when setting up this system.
