(Reuters) - Food transportation companies will be required to adhere to certain sanitation standards to prevent food from becoming contaminated during transit under a new rule proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The rule would require shippers and carriers to properly refrigerate food, clean vehicles between loads and protect food during transportation.

And is properly a police power function of the individual States.
Rant on, good man. I'll be setting fires to the FDA regulations, and bumping the carbon content of the atmosphere.
Lord knows we can use it on a frosty night...

Yeah, because bad trucks and transport are destroying our food and killing Americans all over the place....
FDA Sucks.
Thanks for the ping!
all we need is a few million other citizens with the same virtue. but when and where will they be found?
sauron is as good a nickname for him as any.
I am NOT from Havana, baby.
And remember to teach 'em the government salute.

That benign?
OK, ok, ok. When we forgot God we forgot integrity too.
Yet they keep wanting you to take those “green” tote bags and haul your groceries home in them....
Government encroachments generally didn’t happen in vacuums, or maybe we could say they filled vacuums.
You remember the Rosa Parks story, how she actually got recruited by a communist minded group. We know the outcome of the story, though it is less heard how it managed to get that group a lot of credibility in the black community. And Barack Obama is one of the branches we see today. Now if only the “regular government” of the people had been doing the morally right thing in the first place, there never would have been room for those communists to horn in. Sometimes God raises up the “good Samaritan” to illustrate how those who should have been caring, weren’t.
... and when we complain about seeing things done the “Samaritan way” (remember, the Samaritans were practicing a corrupted form of Judaism) maybe we should remember that it started with a “good Samaritan” doing (as best he knew) something good that we were ignoring.
The cost of food has been skyrocketing for several years so what difference could some more costly regulations make?
They already DO these. One of my sons is s long hauler and he drove several years for the biggest refrigerated truck outfit in the country.
Methinks this has more to do with making inroads into controlling trucking. Should they take over trucking, they control distribution of food. (Your local supermarkets have one day supply of food for your area.)
Depots Creed: "He who controls the food, controls the people."
My first thought is, have we had a problem crying out for this solution? I doubt it.
Are you serious? LOL. If our Founders were alive they would ask, What Constitution are your citing?
Please go and study the works of Madison, Jefferson and modern writers such as Sowell and Mark Levin.
Please study and develop an understanding of the true Liberty our Founders enshrined in the United States Constitution.
The FDA, the EPA and 90% of the Federal government is wholly unconstitutional.
As a compliment to the reading those above, I suggest that you read the works of Ludwig von Mises, Milton Friedman, Hayek, Henry Hazlitt and Lysander Spooner.
The problems you worry about can be solved in a much more efficient and less costly manner by the marketplace.
Most of the problems we face today are the direct cause of Federal, State and local parasites who live to control others through force.
These parasites prevent the solutions from coming into existence.
“Are you serious? LOL. If our Founders were alive they would ask, What Constitution are your citing?”
Yes, I’m serious. Not saying it’s a good rule, just that, strictly speaking, it’s Constitutional (unlike most rules/regs the FedGov promulgates), as applied to interstate shipping. The Constitution empowers the Federal government to “regulate Commerce . . . among the several States.” To the extent this rule regulates the shipping of food in interstate commerce, that fits squarely within the interstate commerce clause.
My buddy Bubba the Capitalist been transportin' chicken to Church's Fried chicken in the same truck he uses for his porta-potty bidness!
I feel much safe now and will be glad to vote for Obama again. He really cares!
Our Founders would be disagree with your reasoning.[Please the writings of the father of the Commerce Clause -- James Madison. He wrote extensive how the Federal Governments role would be extremely limited]
Time does not permit a detailed discussion but I will cite one entity that shows a market solution.
Take Underwriters Laboratories. It arose out of dangerous conditions with early electrical devices. UL was funded by insurance companies as a way to "regulate" devices and assure safety -- hence less insurance claims. That was the market working. Insurance companies have a vested interest in having safe products. Consumers quickly realized the value of buying only UL approved devices.
Back to today. If the FDA didn't exist market solutions would evolve to fill the role the FDA assumes.
All shipping companies for liability reasons, need to be insured. It would be in the interest of insurance companies that the shipping companies operate in a "safe" manner. Over time companies that did not operate in a food safety way would have much higher rates or outright cancellations.
Companies that use shippers would have a vested interest in using only "quality" insured shippers -- they would know their product would be handled well.
This is a much simplified explanation. There is much research by brilliant thinkers that provide numerous examples of how market mechanisms (if allowed to come into existence) would provide superior product or service at a much cheaper price than what government does.
Most people are never exposed to Liberty solutions because they are never taught such in State dominated institutions.
It is truly sad that so many people always instinctively think "only" government can be the guarantor of this or that. The reality is quite the opposite.
Look around you -- from debasing our Currency, punishing producers, rewarding lawbreakers, destroying our health care system, to destroying our culture government at all levels is on a relentless path to control literally every aspect of our lives.
Government is not, as Milton Friedman stated, filled with Angels looking our for our good. Our Founders knew the type of person attracted to government service (let's just say they didn't assume the best would be dominant)
The reality is that throughout history governments have been the most murderous, the most destructive, institution ever created by man. I will always trust Liberty over government busy bodies. Have a good day.
