Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday, cops said.
Hoffmans body was found by a friend at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning in an apartment at 35 Bethune St., sources said.

It wasn’t long ago that an article appeared on FR describing how he had just completed rehab and was recovering well. Sad.
What a fantastic performance in Capote.
Fame, fortune and addictions don’t mix well. Seems all too common and add another case in point to the long list.
The name meant nothing to me.
The face is vaguely familiar.
My brother-in-law’s first and last name was the same (minus Hoffman). He passed away a couple of months ago from cancer. Just a little odd and unsettling.
Rest in peace Gust.
What’s weird about his death is that he was the victim of the dreaded Internet death hoax last week! When I herd this today, I kept searching to see if this was really true. RIP PSH.
The hoax happened earlier in the week.
Where do you get that? I’m saying theres a ton of examples of people dying from drug abuse so why do these idiots keep doing it? How many examples do they need? This guy is doing heroin, how many examples are there of people dying from heroin? 1000s? Millions? Yet he still does it.
Anyway, now they are saying it’s all a hoax

Oh no! He was one of my favorite actors. Damn.
And to answer your question about why people do it, even with all the negative examples.... it's an imperfect world, and people are irrational.

I don’t know who he is, but it’s very sad. Poor man, caught in the darkness of drug addiction.
I’ve heard of him but from the list of movies have never seen him. The extent of my knowledge about him was indirect, through a report that a tongue-tied Serena Williams referred to him as “Phillip Semen Hoffmore.”

I wonder why the hoax. Did he nearly die from the same thing?
RIP to a genius actor. I’m sorry for your demons. I look forward to seeing more of your work (the films I haven’t seen).
Maybe he has a Publicist with a jaded sense of promotional humor.
It looks like his publicist said he was alive on Saturday (February 1st). He was found on Sunday (Feb 2nd). So, 24 hours after the rumor he really did die? Not that it is as credible as any other source, but Yahoo news is reporting his death.
The latest has him getting married this weekend,.
Love that scene where Al Pacino “Frank” defends Charlie in court.
Here’s another thread.
