It sounds almost too good to be true, but it is plausible. The oh-so-smug contraception-devouring Georgetown Law graduate is contemplating a run for the Congressional seat being vacated by Henry Waxman. John Fund outlines a scenario in National Review by which it is possible that this decision could lead to a GOP nominee capturing the vote.
Up to a dozen candidates will run in the non-partisan June primary, in which the top two finishers, regardless of party, then advance to a November runoff. Two possible surprising outcomes: Feminist icon Sandra Fluke going to Congress or the district electing a small-business-owner Republican-turned-independent.
(snip)
Even though several elected Democrats are lining up to run, name ID in the expensive L.A. market is everything and Fluke trumps almost all of her potential challengers in that category.
What worries some liberal strategists is this: Fluke rides her fame and her fundraising advantage with feminists into one of the two spots in the November runoff for the seat. The other slot is taken by Bill Bloomfield, a businessman who spent millions of his own money and held Henry Waxman to an eight-point victory in 2012 - a banner Democratic year in California. While both candidates would be newcomers, Bloomfield would have the money and name ID to be competitive.
Bloomfield told the Los Angeles Times last night that he is "leaning towards running" again and is taking a poll to gauge his chances. The district is winnable for an independent like Bloomfield, given that 28 percent of its voters are registered Republican and another 28 percent are independent or registered with minor parties.

Fat chance.
The Death to America crowd will pull out all the stops to get her into Congress.
The "Death to America" crowd is so awesome.
The Patriot crowd gives up and says fat chance.
Right???
As a first step toward the White House, I suppose. She'd be perfect: crass and immoral with a haughty messianic air about her.
A win by Fluke would be great for the GOP nationwide and even into 2016.
It would be like having a democrat version of Todd Akin on the airwaves 24/7.
...and the GOP could hand it right back by wringing their hands and declaring that district to be one where people want liberal policies and nominating someone just like Fluke but “not as bad” and with an “R” by their name. Watch.
I looked at Waxman’s election history.
He was winning every two years by HUGE margins and suddenly in 2012 (even riding a huge 23 point Obama victory margin in California) barely won.
Anybody know the details there?
Last year, the district’s boundaries were changed so that it now pretty much encompasses the district represented by conservative firebrand “B-1 Bob” Dornan from 1977-1983. So maybe a GOP candidate has a chance.
CLUSTER FLUKE
Somebody actually published a picture of Waxman in his district and it scared all the voters away.
If Fluke runs, it would be hard for our side to lose.
If she loses, our guy gets in.
If she wins, we don’r lose a seat we didn’t have, and, we get a endless target.
LOL it really is a strange history if you look at it.
Even in 2010 which was a pretty robust anti-Obama backlash year he won by 35 points. His winning margin was bigger than the total amount the Republican got.
What would make her more of a “target” than Handsome Henry is?
and here I thought she would sleep her way through her constituents....
She is far more outgoing and will say outragous things the press will love to quote.
Plus, she won’t have but a fraction of the power of Waxman.
its an open primary so i would not surprise me if at the end we had a choice between 2 democrats.
I forget the exact amount she claimed to be spending for birth control every year, but it was equal to enough condoms for her to be ‘doing’ the entire college football team...twice a day every day!
oh what images this brings to mind!!
It’s LA. You could run Hitler on the Democratic ticket and Jesus as a Republican and Hitler would win. Same in San Francisco.
