It sounds almost too good to be true, but it is plausible. The oh-so-smug contraception-devouring Georgetown Law graduate is contemplating a run for the Congressional seat being vacated by Henry Waxman. John Fund outlines a scenario in National Review by which it is possible that this decision could lead to a GOP nominee capturing the vote.
Up to a dozen candidates will run in the non-partisan June primary, in which the top two finishers, regardless of party, then advance to a November runoff. Two possible surprising outcomes: Feminist icon Sandra Fluke going to Congress or the district electing a small-business-owner Republican-turned-independent.
(snip)
Even though several elected Democrats are lining up to run, name ID in the expensive L.A. market is everything and Fluke trumps almost all of her potential challengers in that category.
What worries some liberal strategists is this: Fluke rides her fame and her fundraising advantage with feminists into one of the two spots in the November runoff for the seat. The other slot is taken by Bill Bloomfield, a businessman who spent millions of his own money and held Henry Waxman to an eight-point victory in 2012 - a banner Democratic year in California. While both candidates would be newcomers, Bloomfield would have the money and name ID to be competitive.
Bloomfield told the Los Angeles Times last night that he is "leaning towards running" again and is taking a poll to gauge his chances. The district is winnable for an independent like Bloomfield, given that 28 percent of its voters are registered Republican and another 28 percent are independent or registered with minor parties.

Woo hoo!! And the first 36% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
I thought it was $3000/yr.
Which is $82.19 every day.
I KNOW! Figure you can by condoms for $1 a copy...that’s 82 trips to the sack a day.
When would she have time to change the oil on those sheets? Yuck!
Given Amtrac’s dismal ridership, and Fluke’s 82 condom a day drugstore bill...She really could ‘pull a train’!
Because what she will do for America
Cannot be described without using the word

The voters kept creepy Phantom of the Opera look-alike Waxman in office for so many years, and now they will vote republican? Ain’t happening in Stalin’s back yard, Flakey Fluck will get the commie seat.
Yup. New CA-33 looks like a swing Republican district in a non-Presidential year. The redistricting took swapped out ultra-reliable black and Latino neighborhoods in favor of wealthy white and Asian neighborhoods in the west Valley and in Palos Verdes.
However, my guess is that this is an easy (and permanent) hold for the Democrats with Ted Lieu. Being Asian and from the beach cities enables him easily to outpace four or more Jewish Democrats from the westside and also to keep any Repulican from building up a base in the beaches and Asian voters himself.
I sense she has better chance of playing in the SUPER BOWL than holding any elective office
I wouldn’t mind giving up a seat to the Rats if it means they have a Congresscritter who’s name starts with “F” and rhymes with “truck.”
That’s my Congressional district. I hope no Democrats more qualified than she is will run. It will be my pleasure to work for the Republican candidate, against her.
By the way, we just became part of Waxman’s district in the redistricting (gerrymandering) of two years ago. The Republican stronghold of South Bay/Palos Verdes was subsumed into a district that had a majority of liberals, stretching from PV up to Beverly Hills.
Yes, but it will soak up a great deal of their resources.
Ted Lieu is a joke and a vast disappointment. He lives a block away from me. I have seen him at my (Catholic) church even though he is 100% pro-Planned Parenthood. His legislative initiatives have included banning private, non-medical sonagram machine ownership (no pre-birth 3d sonagram businesses). He has never, and I mean never, proposed any legislation that solved a real problem. He is always just trying to find interesting and unique “hooks” to gain traction and attention with the voting public.
I despise this guy. Can you tell?
No way could a GOP beat Fluke. She’s slept with most of the voters that she’ll need to win the election.

you know the Democrat party voted to remove any reference to God at their 2012 national convention ? And when they decided it was a mistake and unpolitical they rammed the change to put it back in like they voted for Obamacare. But delegates booed the decision. The Democrat is not the party of JFK or even FDR. It’s a queer hyphenated marriage between socialists and “progressives” They are now Demo-Coms.

After all the ridicule, slander, politics of personal destruction launched at Tea Party candidates, Sandra Fluke..., really, the poster girl for free rubbers, because no one would want to pay for the one used on her? ...Democrats have no sense of embarrassment, shame, or the ludicrous.
More fun would be 8 Democrats share the RAT votes while two Republicans share the GOP vote. Runoff would be two Republicans.
Is that why Waxman’s numbers went so dramatically lower in the 2012 election?
“I thought it was $3000/yr.

It is?
