I am in favor of immigration reform. I am also wary of reforms granted now for a promise of border security later. In 1986, Ronald Reagan signed a deal that made just such a promise, yet we are still waiting for the border security that never came. Conservatives are also still waiting for the promised three dollars in spending cuts for every dollar in tax hikes. . . . .
Border Security, including drones, satellite, and physical barriers, vigilant deportation of criminals and increased patrols would begin immediately and be assessed at the end of one year by an investigator general from the General Accountability Office. Most importantly, and in contrast with any other plan out there, my plan will insist that report be presented to Congress for a vote. If, and only if Congress agreed that border security was progressing, then more reforms would ensue. If we cant secure our border, and if we cannot prove we can modernize our system of issuing and tracking visas, we cannot take on the task of adding more people to our system.
After ensuring border security, then I would normalize the status of the 11 million undocumented citizens so they can join the workforce and pay taxes. I would normalize them at a rate of about 2 million per year. I would start with Dream Act kids, children brought here illegally as minors. Normalization would get them a temporary Visa but would not put them ahead of anyone already waiting to enter the country. These undocumented persons would now be documented but they would still have to wait in line like everyone else. But their path to permanent legal status would be no faster than those currently waiting in line.

I agree with this.
We’ve got 3rd generation illegals here and the simple fact is that they will get amnesty. In fact its pretty unlikely that we stand a snowball’s chance in hell of getting rid of the second generation illegals.
Our goal is to seriously control the borders, enforce the law and minimize the numbers who will get amnesty. And I do mean in that order.
How bout verify BEFORE trust?
Wouldn’t that make more sense?
I'm never going to agree with a politician 100%. What I do want is people with intelligence, integrity, an eagerness to evaluate the issues and do what's best for the US, and an ability to communicate and inspire.
I would ask Rand Paul to consider two essential arguments to help him understand why some of us feel so strongly about sending invaders home for good. One is that we are supposed to be a nation of laws, and these people came here illegally....it's hypocritical to allow them to stay. Another argument is that the "solution" of legal residency would create a lesser class of those who are allowed in the US. That is a constant drain on wages and jobs for US citizens, without these residents having the path to demand better. It's the 21st centruy version of slavery, cheap labor with less rights....but with government programs subsidizing the underclass.
The only solution is if they don't self deport, give them a one way ticket home. Let a free market place (without the depressed wages the invaders create) sort out matching US citizens with jobs.
I doubt the veracity of that statement.
LOL

I like your stance on budget issues, Rand, but you are dead in the water on your amnesty posture. I will not support you for president.
>>How bout verify BEFORE trust?>>
agreed!
Well I’m opposed to amnesty because illegal immigration has turned our area into a roach infestation. If you have not experienced it you don’t realize how bad these people are. Its not like the educated middle class of Mexico is moving here. Its the dregs of society.
I would like to challenge Rand Paul to come and stay at our house for a couple of mos and observe the illegals renting next door to us. Then see what he thinks. Let him visit the grocery down the block where he can observe only single hispanic women with kids using their EBT cards. You hardly ever see an American white or black with an EBT card.
They don’t speak English and they don’t integrate into society. Mexicans are highly nationalistic. They don’t care to become American citizens.
Studies have shown that only about 20% of them will come out of the shadows for amnesty. So what I would say to Rand Paul is that if we have to do some kind of amnesty then start with the DREAM kids and do a 5 year amnesty. After that the window closes and if we catch you here illegally you go back the next day. My guess is only 3-5 million people would ever come forward for amnesty. I could live with that if the border was secured first.
NO NO NO ... VERIFY THEN TRUST!!!!! (We’ve trusted them before)
I like how you think. :D
We have good immigration laws already in existence and JWB and Barack and Eric have NEVER ENFORCED THEM. So now, according to Rand Paul, these lawless slime are going to do a 180 degree turn due to “Immigration Reform”? What kind of drugs is Rand Paul doing?
So you’re pro-amnesty, too?
Rand Paul was playing politics on the issue then, and will probably continue to do so. He quickly came out with his own plan so he could triangulate the issue. This way he got positive news coverage for offering “reform” that never had any chance of passing, got to criticize both amnesty and the status quo, and could reasonably end up voting against the bill, which he rather loudly did. I like Rand Paul, but this was cynical, political bullcrap, when he could and should have been leading against amnesty.
I do not and will not trust.
You and yours have done nothing to earn my trust, and you will not have it.
Sorry, that’s a deal killer, Mr. Paul.
