Woman dies after hijab, hair get tangled in Montreal escalator
MONTREAL A woman in her 30s is dead after her headscarf and hair became caught in a subway-station escalator.
A bystander found the woman lying at the base of the escalator at Fabre metro station in east-end Montreal around 9:15 a.m.
He alerted transit workers, who called police.
When first responders arrived, the woman was unresponsive.
"We tried to perform resuscitation on site, but we weren't able to save her," paramedic Bob Lamle told QMI Agency.
The exact circumstances of the woman's death weren't immediately clear, but Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said it appeared "her headscarf and her hair got stuck in the escalator."
"Was she strangled by her scarf or was she the victim of an illness before falling? It's too early to say," Brabant added.
Police shut down the metro station for the investigation

All muslims are victims of islam.
my parents showed me the guarantee
Important to step well on and off them, avoiding the point at which the steps collapse, vanish, and start another revolution. Obviously anything dangling creates an immediate hazard.
Or just very long hair.
I’ve had some painful occurences when I wasn’t paying attention to where my hair was or hadn’t properly put it up when working with dangerous tools.
The heel of my gramma’s shoe got caught in a Sears escalator and knocked her flat, screaming.
My aunt barely got the shoe off before her foot was mangled.
The escalator ‘ate’ her shoe.
I avoid the damn things.
My uncle was elevator inspector in N.Carolina,
He was inspecting a unit that had the floor plates
removed and he was standing inside the machinery.
A wire shorted out and it started up took his leg
above the knee. It really mellowed him out and his
later years were much nicer for his family. he would
swim, and fish drive a car, he later died of cancer
but he held out nice all the way to the end.
Feel sorry for the girl, it must have been frightening.
#1 Son was about 3 as I recall.
Escalator tried to eat him “hand first.”
Fortunately the safety stop worked.
We were lucky with just a couple of pinched fingers.
Exactly
ConsumerWatch.com">According to ConsumerWatch.com, U.S. elevators make 18 billion passenger trips per year. Those trips result in about 27 deaths annually, according to estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. That works out to a fatality rate of 0.00000015% per trip.
“Especially since escalators kill a shocking number of people each year...”
Do they? I’m terrified of them, and think, I’m from the big city and lived around them my whole life. You should see me getting on one...I wouldn’t go to the gallows more gingerly!
In a way I feel validated, but in another way...even more terrified!
I don’t know how this happened to this woman though, did she get caught in the hand rail? Or did she have really long hair and/or a really long hajib?
Whatever happened to her, jokes and snark aside, may she RIP.
When the news footage showed how many Islamic women cheered and did their “ulululululululuuu!” on 9-11-2001 they lost all right to have me pity them one iota. If the overall reaction of muzzies would have been an immediate denouncement of the terrorist acts I’d feel differently. But it is what it is.
Escalator > Allah
Am I wrong for imagining a new brand of escalators made of bacon?
Sounds like a modern day Duncan Isadora event.
I think poor Miss Izzy actually lost her head while joyriding, her long flapper girl scarf became her undoing .
Really? Who cares.
Some more radical muslims are hypersensitive to being touched by the opposite sex for ANY reason, even medical assistance. Can you imagine what may have occured if she had a Taliban style husband, father or brother, and they walked up to see some Orthodox Jewish man giving her a vigorous mouth to mouth?
“her apparel was her CHOICE.”
Perhaps — but, the fact remains that Muslim women have very little power, and most are coerced into wearing the concealing (and dehumanizing) clothing.
It’s a start.
Probably shouldn’t have used a machine designed by the Zionist Escalator Company. ;’)
How did her head scarf get tangled in the escalator? Must have bent to tie her combat boots.
Aside from that, it is still tragic. For all we know, it might have been her fashion style to wear a long scarf anyway. My daughter loves wearing scarves, and I think about these things (ever since reading about Isadora Duncan years ago!) The odd times that I wear a scarf to work, I'm hella careful when I lean over to put something in the paper shredder.
