National Security: While the administration guts the U.S. military, Pentagon experts warn that as soon as five years from now our missile defenses might pose little problem for China's new hypersonic strike vehicle.
Behaving as the world power they are becoming, the Chinese are building state-of-the-art hypersonic missiles that Pentagon officials warn could overpower U.S. defenses in five years.
As we recently mentioned, China's defense ministry has confirmed the Jan. 9 test of a hypersonic glide vehicle, known as the WU-14. It was designed to evade our missile and other defense systems, such as the Aegis sea-based missile defense guarding our Pacific fleet and carrier battle groups.
On Tuesday, shortly before our commander in chief addressed his higher priorities, such as income inequality, in the State of the Union address, Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology, and logistics, expressed concern during a House Armed Services Committee hearing. He is troubled that Chinese military advances such as the WU-14 would overtake the defense capabilities of the U.S. as soon as five years from now.
"The Chinese, as other nations are, are pursuing hypersonic technologies," Adm. Samuel Locklear, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, said last week at the Pentagon.

OBAMALATERAL DISARMAMENT PING
And Obama is too IMPOTENT to do anything about it.
I can recall a period post WWII when Japan was known for producing cheap junk copied from American manufacturers. Today they produce high quality goods often setting world standards. Remembering this example, I wouldn’t take comfort in the Chinese failures and shoddy merchandise of today. What they produce for export won’t be what they develop for their military.
To Bill and Hillary Clinton. I hope that reelection cash was worth it.
nothing is faster than the speed of light and that is where we should be focusing our defenses
Two problems with that.
You’ve got to see it to hit it. Something flying in that fast and low, good luck...
Next problem. Fix the above, and the first detonation takes place off short, blinding your defense systems just before it becomes real interesting...
I’d vote for her...
...sitting in the chair along side her free ticket to ride.
I saw what you did here!
China the third country after the Russian Federation, then United States to have successfully tested a hypersonic delivery vehicle able to carry nuclear warheads at a speed above Mach 10 - or 12,359 kilometers per hour (7,675 mph).[3]
How do they keep it from MELTING??
SR-71 Blackbird flew at 2,200 MPH
The high temperatures generated during flight required special design and operating techniques. For example, major portions of the skin of the inboard wings were corrugated, not smooth. (Aerodynamicists initially opposed the concept and accused the design engineers of trying to make a Mach 3 variant of the 1920s-era Ford Trimotor, known for its corrugated aluminum skin.[25]) The heat of flight would have caused a smooth skin to split or curl, but the corrugated skin could expand vertically and horizontally. The corrugation also increased longitudinal strength. Similarly, the fuselage panels were manufactured to fit only loosely on the ground. Proper alignment was achieved only when the airframe heated up and expanded several inches. Because of this, and the lack of a fuel sealing system that could handle the thermal expansion of the airframe at extreme temperatures, the aircraft would leak JP-7 jet fuel on the runway. At the beginning of each mission, the aircraft would make a short sprint after takeoff to warm up the airframe, then refuel before heading off to its destination.
Cooling was carried out by cycling fuel behind the titanium surfaces in the chines. On landing, the canopy temperature was over 300 °C (572 °F).[25] The red stripes on some SR-71s were to prevent maintenance workers from damaging the skin.
OBAMALATERAL DISARMAMENT PING
This is not a concern of the Obama administration. Military preparedness is the last thing they care about.
that is effing amazing that they figured all this out in the early 60’s.
bump
Thank the Clintons for this one
I knew a radar watch officer whose radarmen tracked an SR-71 out of Taiwan (probably Kadena instead) doing a hell of a lot more than that, back in 1969 or 1970. Still accelerating at 4200 knots or so (estimated, last lock at 3600 kts), when the flag called them up and told them to "break lock, break lock now!"
Those Blackbird flights left the East China Sea area and recovered in Norway about 25 minutes later. Do the math.
Old scuttlebutt.
The Clintons were a generation ago.
Bush II is as a guilty in trading away our secrets and our industrial power.
