(CNSNews.com) - Solar power, which President Barack Obama promoted in his State of the Union Address, accounted for 0.2 percent of the U.S. electricity supply in the first nine months of 2013, according to data published by the U.S. government's Energy Information Administration.
That is up from the 0.02 percent of the total electricity supply that solar power sources provided in 2008, the last calendar year before Obama took office.
Now, one of the biggest factors in bringing more jobs back is our commitment to American energy, Obama said in the State of the Union. The all-of-the-above energy strategy I announced a few years ago is working, and today, America is closer to energy independence than we've been in decades.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
How ironic that fracking saved his @ss to a great extent.
Without it, with this winter, nat gas would be spiking bigtime.
Too bad batteries are still so technologically lame.
My pants will never dry...
My tomatoes are solar powered;-)
Maybe if you put up a clothes line. :)
One conservative writer was actually disappointed that fracking was saving him. Otherwise, the public would be marching on the White House with pitch forks.
I, on the other hand, am grateful for any reprieve from the damage these jerk wads are doing to the country. Even if it makes the sleaze look better in the process.
Solar Panels can help out when SHTF assuming one can stay put.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the increase can be explained by those weaning off the grid in the event that the dictator starts a war, crashes the economy and declares martial law.
It certainty saved my @ss, I would have had $800 gas bills but I think you misunderstand the goals of this administration. From my perspective it seems that fracking has thrown a spanner in their efforts to collapse the entire system.
The opposite. The people like Solar City promoting solar are pure scammers. First they collect our tax money (not the homeowner). Second they sell the unreliable solar power back to the power company for full retail price. Instead of we ratepayers paying 4 cents for reliable power from a real power provider we pay 14 cents for someone to maybe give us some power at some point, but not when we need it the most.
(the exception is in the dessert SW where the sun always shines and the power can be immediately used for A/C.)
As mentioned above the unsolved problem is batteries. There are only two kinds of solar installations: the ones with batteries and the scams.
I’m really surprised they didn’t take credit for there being ten times more solar energy in use than there was. LOL
Thats what I was thinking. 1000% Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the cost is thousands of times per kilowatt as coal.
Might be .2%, but to increase from .02 all the way up to .2 probably cost more in 5 years than building all the infrastructure for the other 98% did in 100 years.
My potato clock worked pretty well in 4th grade.
I had a solar water heater for my pool. It worked very well. Solar has its uses but it sure isn’t going to replace power plants.
I ask them what the current percent of the total energy produced does solar power currently provide ?
To the person most have no idea, but guess anywhere from 10 to 25 percent...
When I tell them it's under 2 percent they get this confused look like that impossible...
Then I ask them are they prepared to pay twice the electric bill if we get to 20 percent...
I have a solar heater on my pool here in Florida and it works absolutely great in the late spring and early fall. Maybe extends the swimming season a month overall, that however will never replace an actual heater using real power. It’s a joke to think it will.
