Total viewership for the address, which aired live from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. PST on 13 networks and tape delayed on Univision, was down slightly from last year's. The 2013 State of the Union was watched by about 33.5 million people.
The speech was covered live by CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, Azteca, Fox Business, Fox News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Al Jazeera America, Galavision and Mun2.
Among cable outlets, the Fox News Channel beat its rivals, as usual, with 4.7 million viewers.

No way that many people watched. No way.
I think you are greatly underestimating the desire of the entitlement army to see what new goodies were coming to the federal menu.
Who did the counting?
There is no way to count TV viewers
I would have been MUCH more disappointed in you had you watched State of the Union instead of Modern Family ..Now that is REALLY how bad that the President is. lol.
I watched some dvr recordings of Pawn Stars. Actually learned a few things vs the lies spewed by a community agitator.
The 33.3 million total does not include people who have given up watching television altogether.
I was not one of them....it’s all I can do to hit the fast forward button fast enough to keep from hearing his whiny ass.....it’s like chalk on a blackboard!!!
That would have been Bill Clintons last one!!!
We know that all the people who love him yet know absolutely nothing about what he wants to do to this country have never watched a SOTU speech in their lives. My question is “who” did watch?
“My fellow Americans...” (click)... THUD!
Just kidding and living a fantasy. I don’t have a TV.
Oh, the thud was my boot bouncing off the TV screen.
I'm stuned [stuned, I tell you] by that number.
I suspect it tells us more about the inexact science of estimating TV viewership than anything else. No one watched the thing.
Not that many, considering 90+ million people didn't have to get up and go to work the next day.
I wonder of these 10% in the US, who accidently flipped to the channel and got counted?
I also wonder how many actually watched the entire diatribe and who threwup before the speech was complete?
I was too busy washing the dishes.
Yes. And that 33.3 million probably includes all the millions of innocent people who walked past an airport CnN boobtoob on their way to visiting grandma.
I chose to watch a movie — (the original) “War of the Worlds.” It is a story about an alien invader who cannot be beaten by conventional means but eventually succumbs to its own hubris. Obviously a random choice?
But that “informed” 10 percent represents the “uninformed” 90 percent. GOP establishment has, will, and forever more be a sellout.
