The blizzard of '93 brought more snow than most Atlanta natives had ever seen or will see.
The floods of 2009 brought an unexpected rush of water that submerged interstates.
The winter storm of 2011 took an entire week away from the city.
But the Snow Jam of 2014 might be the single craziest weather day in Atlanta in a generation.
1-to-3 inches of snow, mixed in with an afternoon drive that still hasn't ended has brought Atlanta to its knees again.
There are certain things we dont have control over and one of those is the weather. This came rather unexpectedly," Governor Nathan Deal said. "The time frame in which it hit was a very short time frame. And I think were better prepared now than we were in 2011.
Metro Atlanta interstates have been gridlocked since about 1 p.m. Tuesday. Commutes stretched 8-to-10 hours. And that's for those who actually got home.
Thousands have been stranded in their cars just sitting in the middle of the road.

Sorry. I apologize. Just having a little fun. I’m just a little tired of shoveling...
Yes, our biggest problem is all the packages *certain people* tend to order on line.....
+10.
Upstate NY....I keep a little box of salt in my car...right in the front seat. Safety is sometimes a sprinkle away.
I’ve seen two fire trucks today and luckily they have the foresight to have chains for the rear wheels. I’d hate to see a 75,000 fire truck start sliding back down a hill. The article only mentions one fatality in 940 reported accidents, something of a miracle in itself.
Wasn’t the snow, it was the ice. Snow melted on warm roads, the roads cooled, the water froze, whole state became a skating rink.
We got about 2 inches last night - on top of the foot currently on display. So beautiful. No ice, luckily.
I tell everyone the same thing...He’s a big boy. Leave him alone.
Remember the joke about the couple that was always
having kids?
= = = = = = = = = =
Oh yes, SORRY, I did say closet and we all know it was a “Cloak Room”....Lord knows I got led into more than one ‘cloak room’ by the ear with Sister Mary ______ swinging something at me with the OTHER HAND...
AND they say I was disruptive....(HA)....
As to the joke, in 1950 a rubber was a shoe, eraser or such (at least in Catholic School)...
Is that the same as what ‘most every’ young lad carried in his wallet (if he had a wallet or anything to put in it) that left a ring?
Would imagine for the greater number of ‘boys’ that carried the ‘ring’ of freedom in his wallet would have nothing but dust by the time it was withdrawn for use.
That ‘circle’ was a sign of ‘manhood’ about the same status as smoking a cigarette.....
Ahhhh the memories....
Will probably go to Walmart for exercise...It's what this senior does in lieu of the Y.
So both me and my car get a little exercise.
Tomorrow...good household sale around the corner.
It kept on snowing all day...
and nobody is likely to venture out up my driveway today...
everyone is staying inside keeping warm..
I cleared off the front steps and part of the path but my driveway is long...
other years the snow was gone by noon...
the few times it wasn’t it stopped snowing and I cleared the driveway..
but Im not as young as I used to be...
Plus I cant find my snow shovel..LOL
with a normal garden shovel I made tracks down the driveway for the wheels yesterday for traction incase it stays around..
but I also just move my car down the hill/slope to the road and faced the road in case I need to go somewhere..
I have plenty of food and still have electricity..
and most of my grands have cellphones and text me ..
so Im not alone..me and what could now be an aviary of birds in my front and back yards...
and my token snowman on the hood of my old truck was powdery yesterday and more of a pyramid than a Frosty snowman..
I just sent “Hi”s to each of my grands..
I might get out today and look at the snow before it melts..
and visit the family..
That’s why my car is down the driveway and not stuck up here at the house...
:)

What the heck are your guidelines???
18 wheelers still jack knifing on 75 north. Sounds like the 285 across the top is still completely stalled.
And the blame game is in full voice.
I drove over 75 at Northside drive on the way to work. South lanes were empty. North lanes were a parking lot. No one could make it up the off ramps.

Good restaurant, theater, racetrack park memories, from way back then...
True, but you won't see much traffic on that road this time of year. It's a white-knuckle drive in the summer when there is traffic...
That goes without saying. It is an absolute miracle of God that I made it home last night.
Atlanta is not the only place having major problems. Chattanooga is bad. This article explains how it happened: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2014/jan/29/one-huge-mess-surprise-snow-storm-paralyzes/?local
