The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken

And “Global Warming” is one of these hobgoblins.

Since the Industrial Revolution, the large-scale burning of fossil fuels has increased the concentration of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by an incredible 40 percent.

Which yields a mind boggling .04% of the atmosphere! Be afraid ...be really afraid.

What a Nimrod.

The largest contributor to greenhouse gasses is water vapor yet we are supposed to believe that CO2, measured in parts per million, is the driving factor. That is like attaching a VW to a 40,000 ton train and claiming that the VW is actually the significant factor in determining the speed of the train.

You are correct and clouds (droplets of water vapor) are the great moderator of global temperature. Clouds reflect most of the energy that hits them back to space. Increasing surface temperature causes more water vapor (the largest green house gas) and thus more cloud formation. We thus have a negative feedback mechanism that moderates global temperatures.

*The rallying cry of the denialists — “It’s really cold outside, so global warming must be a crock!”*

Who are your going to believe, a flawed government supremacist computer model with the data stacked in favor of a Socialist outcome, or your own lying eyes?

I hate this shameless, lying POS. Every time I see his smirking picture I want to vomit.

Eugene is a perfect ‘rat.

*What are Eugene Robinson’s credentials
He's a regular on MSNBC and on Al Sharptom’s show*

He also saw a cartoon version of a computer model drawn by a 3 year old in crayon that showed an angry sun and stick figures with sad faces.

I’ve got an idea for Eugene -

he can start living the lifestyle that’s going to be the result of these Global Warming prevention policies

RIGHT NOW.

We can calculate what energy is going to cost, what gasoline needs to cost, heating, etc, and he can start paying that NOW, with the difference between current costs and the GW premium cost going to the Arbor Day foundation.

When it gets to expensive to live, he can freeze in the dark as he wants everyone else to.

Sure, Gene buddy. Never mind the data, you have a model. Right.

No reason to listen to that Copernicus guy either. He's just a geocentric denier.

There’s also a “saturation point” for the greenhouse effects of CO2 concentrations.

Above a certain concentration point, the heat trapping effect does not increase with concentration.

Believing it is like eating vomit and then asking for more and sending him a check supporting a “non-profit” organization that would force everyone to give all their money and freedoms to support his phony ideas.

“Why is it getting warmer? There’s still just one explanation that fits the available facts: ... the large-scale burning of fossil fuels has increased the concentration of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by an incredible 40 percent.”

This is the first time a have seen this statement. Does anyone know if there are other explanations that fit the available facts?

I don't think he uses "facts." In any event, the percentage increase depends on where you start the measurement. A couple of quick references show current CO2 at 396.8 ppm which would be a 40% increase from 283 ppm in the early 19th century. Where the scenario breaks down is the effect such an increase has on global temperatures. It's not that CO2 increases temperature, its temperature increases (in a pre-industrial age) that lead to CO2 increases (a lag of 500 to 1000 years).

Here are a couple of references. Others can discuss more scientifically than I can.

global warming is the biggest lie ever told. this is the coldest year ever :Snow in new Orleans , snow in Pensacola, snow in Egypt this year. factories have been emitting C02 for the past 200 years. This CO2 is what democrats say is trapping heat in the atmosphere causing global warming. if that were true then sea levels would have risen 60 feet in those 200 years. They haven’t .there is MORE ice than ever in Antarctica( google it) not less. It’s hasn’t warmed. there is no sea level rise, ice caps have not melted.global warming is a big lie democrats push to grow government and control us (socialism).

democrats are pure evil

I will always continue to fight for freedom and for smaller, almost nonexistent just constitutional government: I am a Republican

I am too but, sadly, most Washington Republicans are just for a smaller version of what Democrats embrace. Just a few like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin understand and stand for what we both believe is a better way.
