A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Trey Radel of Florida says the congressman will resign after pleading guilty to cocaine-possession charges last year.
Dave Natonski says the freshman republican will step down Monday and will send a letter to House Speaker John Boehner.
Politico first reported the upcoming resignation.
On Nov. 20, Radel pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession and was sentenced to a year of probation. He admitted to purchasing 3.5 grams of cocaine from an undercover officer Oct. 29 in Washington.
Several GOP leaders had asked him to resign. But Radel had pledged to stay in office and rebuild constituents' trust after completing in-patient treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.
Radel had been in office for 10 months when charged. His district includes the gulf coast cities of Fort Myers and Naples.
California is a perfect example of Northeastern libs moving here and running roughshod over a once proud and vigorous state economy.
Glad to see that trash get taken out. Good riddance to him forever I hope. We cannot have this idiot as a distraction in 2014. We had that in 2006, 2008 and 2012...no more.
Norm come on Allan West (carpetbagger extraordinaire) is finding a place now that will guarantee him a win in 2014. He is desperate to be in politics and will do whatever it takes to get back in. Power will ensure that he will find any small town or village that will elect him. It happens with a lot of politicians.

Yeah, but it looks like the “conservatives” in the People’s Republik of Connecticut have finally had enough.
America, where you can do cocaine and grow up to be President - unless you have an (R) after your name...
Guaranteed there’s more than just cocaine for him to resign.
Col. West told me he was gerrymandered out of his own district by republicans and then went to the district next door. Hardly carpetbagging.
While I do not have solid evidence that the congressman was set-up or framed, I do know that many people accused of drug charges are set-up and if they are high profile Republicans very possibly framed.
My husband, while not high profile like the congressmen, used to minister to young people on the streets around dance clubs on weekend nights. One time he was talking with someone and mentioned that he had a headache The person who seemed very friendly offered him some aspirin and after he took one or maybe two, he began to feel nauseous and light headed.
He then began dancing about in the street, offering strangers aspirin, hugging people, including a police officer and was arrested. Arrested not for dancing or hugging the cop, but for a drug called ecstasy that was in his pocket!
He tried to explain to the police that the pills were just aspirin and told the cops that they ones he took made his headache go away.
By the time it was all said and done, the police, the prosecutors and even the judge said it was ecstasy and that it was a felony.
Fortunately, he did not go to prison, but spend almost two days in the city jail with common criminals, like drunk drivers, a burglar, a drug dealer and even male prostitutes.
It was all quite humiliating for him and was sentenced to probation and they never did believe that all he took and was giving away was aspirin.
Nancy peeing in a bottle would probably take a Wide Mouth Mason Jar.
