Passersby likely assumed it was just a homeless person, so they ignored the young girl lying on the snowy sidewalk.
Thats what seasoned Street Help/Unit 7 volunteer Brandt Huber believes after saving the life of a missing 13-year-old girl. He found her Thursday morning lying barely conscious in plain sight on a busy street.
Its shocking to know that some people are so caught up in what theyre doing that they cant stop and help somebody in need, said Huber.

Just a small town boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
I’m thinking this isn’t the guy who took a midnight swim going to Detroit.
The midnight train going anywhere evidently stops at the corner of Erie Street and McDougall Avenue.
People overestimate how civilised their fellow humans are.
Interesting.
I worked at the RenCen for almost 2 years and I don’t recall McDougall and Erie “intersecting”.
No matter:
He took a midnight swim
Goin’ anywhere
(older, comical FRarticle reference)
Just a little curious how she got into that situation.
Ooops. my bad.
Let me map S. Detroit for the intersection of McDougall and Erie.
There we go...Wigle Park in City of Windsor.
To quote Monty Python...”bring oudjyer-dead”
Luke 10:25-37
I walked by a bum sitting on a bench on the edge of Madison Square during the afternoon pedestrian rush hour. It was bitterly cold, and he was sunk down into his enormous coat so only his hat was visible. There were thousands of people walking by, stepping over the trail of urine that lead from under him, across the 20 foot wide sidewalk, and into the gutter. I stopped and looked around. There were cops and other bums among those walking by and noticing him and not stopping. Being a country boy in a strange land, I did as the Romans do. I still wonder if he was dead or alive.
When one dies, the bladder and bowel empty within seconds. If one is in renal failure and dies, this does not usually happen...The kidneys are not working and no urine is excreted into the bladder...
The story doesn’t elaborate on why a 13-year-old girl was out on the street in the first place? Big hole in the story.
Not an excuse, but I’d venture that some people passed by because they didn’t want to be accused of trying to molest a child.
The potential for liability is endless. It could be also a prank, or a setup for extortion, with her "big brother" hiding nearby and ready to accuse you.
Today the most reasonable response would be to call 911, anonymously, and then remain in the area to make sure they find the victim.
Another way lawyers have destroyed society.
Or worse. A setup to get the target down on the ground checking on the poor girl while the thugs move in and mug you or some new variant of the "knock-out" game.
And so on and so forth...
So, use that Smartphone and call 911.
