Wunderground ^

If you thought Ghost Ship was just another Hollywood horror-flick, brace yourself. According to The Independent, an abandoned, cannibalistic rat-infested, 1,565 ton Soviet-era cruise liner could be just another winter storm away from colliding with the coast of the United Kingdom or Ireland, and Canadian authorities may be to blame.

Is there some reason why England must welcome these rats to their shore?
Couldn’t they just round up some hungry stray cats and drop them in for dinner?

Some smart cookie might come up with an idea like;
Shoot through every orofice you can, flaming sulphur bombs ... keep doing it for a full 24 hours or something.
Let a week go by, board the thing and sweep up the carcasses and feed the fish.
Just a thought

If they can find it a well placed torpedo would do the trick!

As for the rats? The National Post reports that the Lyubov Orlova sat in port for more than two years in Newfoundland, "virtually guaranteeing" the ship acquired a rat infestation. After a nearly year adrift with no food, many British media outlets believe that the rats may have turned on each other in order to survive. Whether or not the cannibal rats make landfall remains to be seen, but Irish authorities are bracing for impact.
So the most sensational part of the story -- that the ship is infested with bloodthirsty, canibalistic rats -- is pure speculation. And Irish authorities are "bracing for impact" based on that speculation. Gotta love it. The fact that their navy doesn't just sink the damn thing and instead everyone wrings their hands is a telling commentary on what the West has become.

I don’t know much about Admiralty Law, but it seems clear that the previous owners made a conscious decision to abandon the ship. That being the case, would it not belong to the first person who took possession of it?

Holy crap. Don’t they have drones or radar or satellites? LOL! They’ve sunken lower than I thought.

Wow... you mean there is no maritime protocol for that kind of thing?
If an ice berg is a problem... so is a ghost ship...It’s irresponsible to just let it drift!

Could this be a suggested location for the upcoming GOP policy retreat? Boehner and cannibal rats has a certain symmetry to it.

For heaven’s sake, this isn’t a submarine. If the British navy has deteriorated so severely that it can’t find a large surface ship which is taking no evasive actions, it could ask for U.S. assistance. I’m sure our military satellites could find it in no time. Something as big as a cruise ship cannot escape detection for too long, even in the vastness of the north Atlantic.
