RENTON, Wash. (CBSNewYork/AP) Richard Sherman wondered if he came to the NFL 20 years too late.
The Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback wondered if his swagger might have fit better a few decades earlier when that confidence and an unfiltered tongue was perhaps more accepted.
I studied the old school game more than I studied the new school game, and I play it that way. It rubs a lot of people the wrong way, Sherman said Wednesday. Giving a true speech after a game, a true passionate speech is old school football. Playing press corner and sitting up there every play is old school football. I guess maybe I just havent adjusted to the times.

The analogy fits.
The Army is full of Jerks. I was one of them.
The methods and madness are very similar, as are the attitudes.
On the contrary, DC is full of educated people.
Is every football player like that or just thugs?
Yea, but we fans pay the bills. And obviously Sherman does care about what we think. That's why he spent thousands of words giving us a non-apology and blaming everyone but himself.
In the video, she appears to be a maximum of 2"-3" shorter than Sherman (and he's wearing a hat).
You are also correct that many pictures of her should be posted...
;-)
Richard Sherman Went After Tom Brady with Trash Talk After Seattle Beat New England.
Trent Williams Mushed Richard Sherman (who was yapping again) After Seattle Beat Washington.
At its root, the word "Thuggee" means "deceivers," and this name hints at the methods employed by the cult.
Bands of Thugs traveled across the country posing as pilgrims, merchants, soldiers, or even royalty, in groups numbering anywhere from a few men to several hundred. Offering protection or company, they would befriend fellow travelers and slowly build their confidence along the road. Often the impostors would journey for days and hundreds of miles with their intended victims, patiently waiting for an opportunity to strike.
When the time was right, typically while their targets were encamped and at their most relaxed, a signal would be givenreportedly Bring the tobaccoand the Thugs would spring. Each member had a well-honed specialty; some distracted their quarry, some made noise or music to mask any cries, while others guarded the campsite from intruders and escapees. Thugs of the highest rank performed the actual killings.
As a prohibition against shedding blood was at the core of Thuggee belief, the murders were performed in a bloodless fashion. The usual method was strangulation with a rumal, the yellow silk handkerchief each thug wore tied around his waist; but an occasional neck-breaking or poisoning helped to add some variety. It was a matter of honor for the Thugs to let no one escape alive once they had been selected for death.-Tom
Not every football player is like anything.
Are all people the same? Do we all have the same backgrounds?
No. Glad for that.
Many here don’t like the way he looks. That’s about it.
Of course.
You’re clearly a biker and everyone knows bikers are nothing but thugs.
;-)
Well, if you were correct he wouldn't be so hurt over what people are calling him. But clearly he is. He wants to portray another character, but he clearly failed.
I said it in another post. If he is so sensitive that people call him a thug, and not a Stanford gentleman, after that rant, then he should go to charm school over the offseason, and prove he isn't next year after another tough game.
People will remember and they will THEN view him as he wishes to be viewed.
No he didn't. He acted like a classless a-hole. He was asked to describe the play and he trashed Crabtree. Truly classless, not warrior-like.
Just curious: What if Bolden were there to catch the deflection and win the game? Would Bolden have trashed Sherman? No. Bolden, and many others in the NFL have class.
The only reason it bothers me is it seems like its an accepted way of calling someone the N-word nowadays. Its like everybody else said the N-word and they said thug and theyre like, thats fine, Thats where it kind of takes me aback. Its kind of disappointing because they know. What is the definition of a thug, really?
~ Richard Sherman
“..If you have ever been around Special Forces types...”
I AM around them, every day.
For the last twenty years. I work with them. The men I know aren’t loudmouth blowhards. They’re “Quiet Professionals”, dedicated Patriots, and the very definition of the word “American”. They are Warriors, by any and all accepted definitions of the word.
Words mean things. It’s like applying “hero” or “victim” to anyone and everything. It diminishes the act, and the word as well.
As I said, I agree with all the rest of your post, except that one statement.
The difference is, no one is trying to put little high-speed projectiles into Sherman or deliberately kill him; and he’ll walk away a very wealthy man, any time he wants.
It’s a game. A rough one, yes, but a game nonetheless. That’s all.
The people I know aren’t going to walk away wealthy; but they do it / did it anyway. Because they love their country; and because they’re Warriors, they do it because no one else CAN.
We’re on the same page, friend. Just a clarification of a term.
Richard Sherman went up to Michael Crabtree after his successful pass deflection and said as he was holding out his hand for a handshake, “Hell of a game! Hell of a game!” Then, Crabtree gives Sherman a stiff arm into his face mask. The refs pull Sherman away to avoid more problems. The sore loser attitude set Sherman off. Sherman yells at him, “Go your ass home! Go your as home!”
Here is the video:

Sherman could have just said, I just tried to shake Crabtrees hand and congratulate him on a good game. I know how upset he was when he smacked me in the helmet. Must have been tough for him to miss that pass. But, he is no sissy.
Later in the video, Sherman is seen giving a hug to the woman reporter, getting kissed by a fan and going up to a 49er and giving him a handshake and a hug. Sherman is no “thug.” What thug would let himself get kissed? He is a very inspirational player who knew he was going to be tried by Crabtree and he was “kevlar.” He is the body armor of the Seahawks.
Sherman was miked during the game. When he slapped Crabtree’s butt and got head slapped in return, he had just commented, “Helluva game!”
A thug can mean a mobster or gangster.
Sherman is now playing the race card.
Thug is not a racial slur. Although Sherman is now hiding behind the race card.
Trash talking belongs on the field, when the game is over, shake hands and say “Good Game” like they do during the Stanley Cup playoffs when the series is over.
Richard Sherman is no thug like Jack Tatum !!
America could likely use a few more Richard Shermans....instead of the wussies we have
