RENTON, Wash. (CBSNewYork/AP) Richard Sherman wondered if he came to the NFL 20 years too late.
The Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback wondered if his swagger might have fit better a few decades earlier when that confidence and an unfiltered tongue was perhaps more accepted.
I studied the old school game more than I studied the new school game, and I play it that way. It rubs a lot of people the wrong way, Sherman said Wednesday. Giving a true speech after a game, a true passionate speech is old school football. Playing press corner and sitting up there every play is old school football. I guess maybe I just havent adjusted to the times.

You have to realize that Sherman’s run-ins with Crabtree go back to last summer, where Crabtree tried to start a fight with Sherman after another attempt at a hand shake. I think this latest attempt was the last straw. I think Sherman used the “Compton-talk” as a thing between two “brothers.” I think Sherman was using language as a way to get to Crabtree on his level—the way his father would talk to him for being late to dinner. I think it is pretty funny when you look at it that way.
He lost it plain and simple. He should make a clear apology for not acting like the man he wants to be, and act differently next year.
Also, I have heard both of those fellows open their mouth and talk. So, for those two individuals at least, I'm quite sure of my preconceptions and my conceptions.

My error. Post #121.
But those with an MBA from Stanford can act like a Thug.
So now you know how I view suit wearing gentlemen?
Oh dear.
Acknowledged. But if he’s hurt by how people view him, he shouldn’t engage in that anymore. No need to. He won and winning is everything. A man of character and class wouldn’t need to act thuggish to drive home a point to another thug.
Sure. You told everyone. See below.
"Saddam Hussein, and his kids all looked good in suits. Well groomed too. Nelson Mandela looked good in a suit. So did our little friend Adolf. I tell you who could really make a suit look good. John Gotti. Ben Bernaki looks good in a suit. So does Obama." -- DariusBane
That was a rant? That was going off? Sheesh. What a tempest in a teapot. That didn’t even make me blink.
Sherman earns big bucks for his talent. It's not much to ask that he act dignified when the game is over, even if Crabtree was a bigger jerk.
Hopefully Sherman learns his lesson and tones down all the trash talk and action. His choke gesture cost his team 10 yards. Could've impacted the game if not for the interception. If I was his coach I'd fine him the entire NFC Championship check for those antics.
Richard Sherman did apologize:
“I apologize for attacking an individual and taking the attention away from the fantastic game by my teammates ... That was not my intent. Obviously, I could have worded things better and could obviously have had a better reaction and done things differently.”
Here is what coach Pete Carrol said about Sherman after the incident:
“When you really love somebody and care for them, you do everything you can help them be everything they can be, Carroll said on the radio. At times they are going to make mistakes and break your heart, but if you love them, you stay with them. You give [them] the best chance to be all they can be. Richard is a wonderful spirit. Hes got an amazing heart, and he has great sensitivity. He goes all the way to the end of the spectrum when it comes to expressing himself.
Who are you his mother? The guy is a grade A smack talker. Nothing you have said refutes my statement.
You do make wild leaps of logic. Very impressive.
I think Sherman has had a good talk with coach Pete Carrol. I do think he has learned from his error and it will make him a better person.
No. But, I am a brother from a different mother and I know the football culture. We don’t expect the players to have white hankies in their back pocket to wipe the sweat off the opposing player’s brow and say, “please, may I intercept the ball?” It is obvious that the football culture is culture shock for you. However, I understand the sentiment when someone is unhappy that their team failed your expectation.
Aren't the SAT totals now 2400? They were 1600 when you and I probably took the tests ages ago. 1200/1600 would be decent. 1200/2400 not so much.
I saw his response right after the game too. He came off a little crazy. But anyone could tell he was pumped because he thought Crabtree was disrespecting him on the field and he answered Crabtree by knocking the ball out of bounds. I wondered what Crabtree said to him to make him so angry but I didn’t think he was nuts necessarily, just really pumped with adrenalin. I wouldn’t categorize him as a thug because of what he said. I think we over dramatize things.
Was it actually earned or was he a product of affirmative action and football skills?
Well then, accepting your argument in favor of Sherman, that certainly puts an end to the controversy regarding President Obama's college career and his ultimate law degree from Harvard and his tenure as president of the Harvard Law Review, doesn't it?
He is supposedly very smart. 4.0 coming out of high school.
