RENTON, Wash. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Richard Sherman wondered if he came to the NFL 20 years too late.
The Seattle Seahawks’ All-Pro cornerback wondered if his swagger might have fit better a few decades earlier when that confidence and an unfiltered tongue was perhaps more accepted.
“I studied the old school game more than I studied the new school game, and I play it that way. It rubs a lot of people the wrong way,” Sherman said Wednesday. “Giving a true speech after a game, a true passionate speech is old school football. Playing press corner and sitting up there every play is old school football. I guess maybe I just haven’t adjusted to the times.”

Thugs don’t have an MBA from Stanford.
Whatever. Everyone needs to move on. He apologized so leave it at that. At least he didn’t drop a bunch of F bombs.
While he may be intellectually sharp, he's still classless and arrogant. Sunday wasn't the first time he's mouthed off.
The choking sign he gave to the receiver cost his team ten yards. It would have been great if Seattle had been still behind and that yardage cost them the chance to catch up instead of being meaningless in the last few seconds of the game.
As for the post-game interview, it didn't come across as "thug" as "crazy" like when you ask someone how he's doing and he says "The tri-lateral commission wants you to think that weasels are eating my brain - but I know that they are actually ferrets." Back away slowly and try not to make eye contact.
Trash talking has always been a part of sports and war. It’s just guys being guys. If the public can’t handle it then that’s their problem, not Sherman’s.
Richard Sherman is a warrior, high on adrenaline, violence and victory.
He acted like it.

Champions and warriors are not everybody.
Champions, warriors and MBA’s from Stanford are pretty unusual people. Rare people. They don’t think or act like everybody.
I am fine with that. Look forward to seeing Mr. Sherman on ESPN when his NFL career is over.
His only mistake was accepting an interview at that moment. He was still in ‘warrior’ game mode. He’s a hell of a player and a sharp guy. He is still a football player and relies on getting angry to perform at the high level needed to do his job.
Richard “Dick” Sherman did not display good sportsmanship, either in his interview immediately after the game or in his comments later on. Good sportsmanship is “old school,” but it is foreign to many players these days. It does not include taunting, trash-talking, hot-dogging, showboating, gyrating, or excessive celebrations.
He’s a kid from Compton that scored 1400 on his SATs, GRADUATED from Stanford, and is the best cover corner in the NFL though he was drafted fifth.
He used the adversity of his situation to prove to everyone he could do it, though others thought he couldn’t.
If every kid in Compton could follow his lead, I’ll take several thousand thugs just like this one.
He’s welcome in my home.
I still haven’t seen anything wrong in what he did. He called out another player by name. People seem to be reacting to the fact that he was ranting in an interview with a small woman. How is her size or position as interviewer his fault? In a way, it was refreshing to see the unbridled passion for excellent play for a change, instead of the PC, “Well, I got lucky,” or “They played well and we were fortunate.”
Sounds like you received the typical liberal dogma from Stanford that R. Sherman avoided, who’s a loser now?

Furthermore, the content of your post makes it appear to me that you did not even read the article before posting it, and I suspect the only reason you posted it is to provide a backdrop for your own vile opinions.
This whole thing is so blown out of proportion it’s unreal. And it’s being done for one reason - to protect that idiot feminist interviewer who should never have been down there on the field in the first place, let alone asking questions of someone in such a hyper-state.
He’d been in a balls-out fight all game with the SF WR, and just made an incredible play that was chosen specifically to shame him, against all strategy and logic, just for spite - and it failed, and he nailed the superbowl for his team. Of course he was pumped! And that was the real story - not this fake feminism outrage that is clearly intended to slam football even harder to get it out of high schools.
It’s the feminization of football, right in front of everyone’s eyes. And it’s sickening how everyone is going along with it. Five minutes after this event, he gave a perfectly calm interview, because he had an opportunity to calm down. It was a “gotcha” from a lipsticked, prim and proper, pearl f*****g earringed journolist with a very nasty agenda.
Wake the hell up, America!
In my opinion he showed himself to be a no class thug. Ain’t nobody gonna change my mind.
He’s still a part of thug culture. Like many supposedly “educated” he de-evolves into ghetto talk in the heat of the moment.
First, he did not apologize. Read the multiple articles. He was attempting to rationalize his behavior. Thousands of words explaining this and that, when two words would have sufficed -- "I'm sorry."
No one is stupid enough to believe that his statement, "things could have been worded better" is equivalent to an apology.
If he truly apologized for then it WOULD be over.
But now he's blaming racists for calling him a thug, instead of admitting that he DID act like a thug. He's hurt because people are saying he reverted to his inner-city, Compton roots. Well, HE DID.
If I were Sherman, I'd be gracious rather than accusatory. I'd cut my hair. And I'd take some training in how to be a gentleman over the offseason so he can truly leave the thug-bred-in-Compton roots behind and act like a Stanford gentleman.
