Russian Christian terrorists are apparently a major threat to America.
If I didn’t know better, I would think that Hollywood had some kind of left-wing agenda. But instead Hollywood is just depicting real life.
Like its attempt to make a Jack Ryan movie not based on a Tom Clancy movie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (currently at no. 4 after Ride Along, Lone Survivor and The Nut Job) which depicts the reality of terrorist sleeper cells operating out of Russian Orthodox churches in Dearborn.
A discerning viewer might notice that Russia essentially employs al-Qaeda tactics, of which would be ironic considering al-Qaeda’s affiliates have targeted Russia brutally in the past…
The desire for glory embodied in Cheverin’s evil machinations is colored with religious fervor. The entire operation is called “Lamentations,” and Cherevin asks for Divine favor for his impending plot in prayer during an Orthodox vesper.
The Midwest-based sleeper agents are activated of their tasks during a public reading of Lamentations 2:2 in the local Orthodox parish that the sleepers attend. It reads: “Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of Daughter Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonor.”
In the film, the Orthodox Church is a conduit to “bless” and commence Russia’s operations.
To do so, they awake “sleeper agents” in the U.S. by sending a cumbersome coded message through the Russian Orthodox Church… “Slava Bogu!” (thank god) one sleeper agent exclaims on catching the coded message.
So true to life.

Couldn’t make it about mooselimbs. They might end up laying in a pool of blood on Wilshire Blvd with a note stabbed in their silicon chests.
They go so out of their way to lie and change perception. It is just amazing. And they control the message.
Crap like this is why Clancy stopped working with Hollywood.
A Russian church? Is there even one in Dearbornistan? I know there’s a huge, city-block-wide mosque on Michigan Ave. in east Dearbornistan.
Just loser equivocation and lying like Hollywood did with “Sum of All Fears.”
They are cowards afraid of angering Muslims.
Russians could be bad in Hunt for Red October. Irish could be bad in Patriot Games. A G.H.W. Bush character could be bad in Clear and Present danger BUT Muslims could not be bad in Sum of All fears. guess which one I gave a pass on? Oh, let me just predict there will be no Rainbow Six movie. Environmentalists can be depicted as the Malthusian Declinist fanatics they are.
If this is set in the 1970/80s then it makes sense that the Russians (Soviets) are the bad guys. If current, it doesn’t.

I don’t know whether there’s really a Russian church in Dearborn. I don’t even know whether there’s an Orthodox Church in Dearborn, though there is a bit mostly Arab Orthodox parish in Livonia — the Basilica of St. Mary.
My thoughts exactly. I still haven't bothered to watch Sum of All Fears just for this reason. It is my favorite Clancy novel and they totally ruined it with PC. I'll give this one a pass as well.
If they put a terrorist cell in a Dearborn mosque (a real probability) the producers and stars would be running and hiding for the rests of their lives.
It is so much safer to make real Muslim terrorists into pretend Christian ones.

I believe middle eastern Christians far outnumber muslims in the greater Detroit area these days. The super muzzie brothers are concentrated in Dearborn with Copts, Maronite, Assyrians etc spread all around the area.
The Russion Orthodox Church in the United States was predominantly ROCOR (pro-tsarist and absolutely anti-Moscow Patriarchate). A few churches remained in the Moscow Patriarchate in the US. Six were in Michigan, none in Dearborn.
After a millenia of Orthodox Christianity in Russia, I’ve never heard of an instance where a Russian Orthodox Christian used tactics depicted in the movie.
So, no, it doesn’t make sense if set in the 70s or 80s.
Seriously, the Russian consulate should file a formal protest to the US government, objecting this this as anti-Russian Orthodox, anti-Christian bigotry.
Of course the USG would do nothing, but it would alert the US public that vilifying the Russian Orthodox church is just as offensive as is vilifying other people of faith.
