The US state of Texas plans to execute a Mexican national convicted of murder, over the objections of the US and Mexican governments.

Mexico says Wednesday's execution of Edgar Tamayo, 46, will violate international law.

The country says he was not told of his right to seek legal assistance from the Mexican consulate when he was arrested.

His lawyer isn’t just claiming “Mexico wasn’t notified”. They’ve tried putting out the “mentally retarded” meme.

Bill Clinton executed a mentally retarded man while he was governor. Had to show he was tough on crime in the run up to the 1992 election.

The U.S. is a signatory to a treaty that says that if a foreigner is arrested for a crime, his home country's embassy should be notified.

Well, until the world changes, Americans should not cross the U.S. border.

I haven't and never intend to do so.

You did read the part about the supreme court not agreeing with you ....right!!

The Supreme Court said the same thing I did-- Texas violated the treaty, but setting the guy free is not the remedy.

Do they really expect the state of Texas to care? You kill a law enforcement officer in Texas, expect to be executed. We would do booster executions every five years for cop killers if we could.

All that quiet laying on a comfortable bed just going to sleep don’t seem like justice to me.

Yeah, I think there should be some terror, violence and pain in the execution of a murderer...or child molester.

I disagree. He was a foreign national inside the state of Texas committing a crime. The only “rights” he has are those enumerated in constitution and laws of the state of Texas for foreign nationals. If Texas law did not afford him the “right” to talk to the consulate, then he did not have that right.

"...all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the Supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby..." (U.S. Constitution, Article VI).

Just like your typical DemocRAT, Mexican Nationals want it both ways all of the time. They like to claim that they are U.S. citizens because they were able to successfully enter the country without being caught. Therefore, they say that they are entitled to government benefits, driver’s licenses, in-state tuition and any other goofy BS their ‘RAT masters can come up with. When they murder somebody, they automatically become Mexican Nationals again. HORSE****! If you kill somebody in America, you deserve American justice.

I am just surprised the captured him. Most cop killers manage not to be taken alive. Too bad he did not try to escape..just a little.

Afraid not friend....not according to the article!!!

"Former President George W Bush ordered Texas and other states to review the cases, but the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of the state in 2008, saying the president could not effectively enforce The Hague's ruling, leaving it to Congress to pass legislation."

How is that different from what I said? Texas violated the treaty, but there was no remedy to enforce that without a vote of Congress.

Precisely. This beast was allowed to live another 20 years. His victim did not. The family of this animal could have and probably did visit him on his birthday or holidays. The family of this slain officer could only visit a cold marble slab. This sick, twisted, pathetic so-called man robbed a family of a much loved family member when he murdered that officer. It’s not enough he gets to drift off to sleep as punishment for his crime, but it will have to do. At least, another family will not have to get the call that a family member is dead at this wretch’s hands. Cold comfort indeed.

The Supreme Court ruled, in Medellin v. Texas, that an international treaty only creates obligations on state governments when Congress so declares. Congress ain't so declared.
