The US state of Texas plans to execute a Mexican national convicted of murder, over the objections of the US and Mexican governments.
Mexico says Wednesday's execution of Edgar Tamayo, 46, will violate international law.
The country says he was not told of his right to seek legal assistance from the Mexican consulate when he was arrested.

In a case argued by now-Sen. Cruz, if I recall.
Didn’t Ted Cruz argue this case before the Supreme Court.
Should he have been notified of his right to talk to the consulate? Yea. Would it in all likelihood have changed the verdict and should that fact therefore be cause to set aside the sentence? No. They caught him running away with the murdered cop’s watch.
Let them dig a tunnel to NY.
“Should he have been notified of his right to talk to the consulate? Yea. “
I disagree. He was a foreign national inside the state of Texas committing a crime. The only “rights” he has are those enumerated in constitution and laws of the state of Texas for foreign nationals. If Texas law did not afford him the “right” to talk to the consulate, then he did not have that right.
As a Texan, I can honestly say it is not fast enough.
Or die with it as the case may be.
You recall correctly. It was Cruz who successfully fought Bush.
F them.
Like I didn’t love Ted already.
Not quite that simple.
The U.S. is a signatory to a treaty that says that if a foreigner is arrested for a crime, his home country's embassy should be notified. That's a good rule; if U.S. citizens are arrested in Mexico (or China, or anywhere) we would want the U.S. Embassy to be notified.
For Texas to say that it is not bound by that treaty is bad constitutional law (Supremacy Clause) and bad policy (we don't want Mexico to retaliate against U.S. citizens).
Having said all of that, that doesn't mean that this guy goes free. He has had a trial and an appeal, and he's guilty. There should be some remedy for the failure to notify the Mexican Embassy, but setting him free now is not that remedy.
You mean like the law about sneaking into a country illegally!] and committing murder!!!
You could not pay me ANY amount to go to mexico.
Don’t mess with Texas.
If he had never illegally entered the country, he could’ve engaged in his life of crime under Mexico’s legal system.
Instead he was apprehended, and while in custody, shot and killed a man (of which there is no doubt).
Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Nadil Hasan’s death sentence to be carried out.
You did read the part about the supreme court not agreeing with you ....right!!
A bottle of sleeping pills and a pool would work.
If/when Tamayo gets his due, Mexico should promptly close its border with the US in protest.
heh heh
