(CNN) - Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis admitted in an interview with the Dallas Morning News that she hasn't been totally accurate about her life's story, a compelling narrative she has used to appeal to voters in Texas and bolster her national profile.
"My language should be tighter," the Democratic state senator said. "I'm learning about using broader, looser language. I need to be more focused on the detail."
After her marathon filibuster against proposed abortion laws in the Texas legislature last summer, Davis was propelled to the national stage. The attention gave her the support and encouragement to announce a bid for governor in October.
She frequently shared her biography both before and after she started running for governor, saying she was a single mother by the age of 19 and lived in a trailer with her young daughter. From there, she eventually put herself through community college, Texas Christian University, and Harvard Law School with the help of scholarship and loans.
The Morning News, however, reported over the weekend that Davis became a single mother at 21, not 19, when she got divorced from her then-husband, who was directed to pay child support.
"She lived only a few months in the family mobile home while separated from her husband before moving into an apartment with her daughter," writes Wayne Slater, the paper's senior political writer.
Davis' campaign released a statement later Monday to clarify some of the details from her life.

Good Lord
Thank you for this
I hope it gets lots of coverage
The facts about her just keep getting worse
I wonder if the 2 people who gave her a Million each regret it
There’s nothing better than a story about someone who’s worked their way to success. But, it seems this woman has stretched her story quite a bit...
To be fair, though, the fact that she was officially divorced at 21 doesn’t mean she wasn’t already separated and raising her child alone at 19.
Still, the rest of her story - with her second husband supporting her through college, then his filing for divorce based on her committing adultery, etc. - doesn’t quite fit well with her narrative of the “single mom who struggled to make it...”
Why does the Democratic Party love selfish women so much?
She gave up custody of her children becuase she cared more about her career than her children.
Me first attitude. That’s what the Democratic Party is all about.
Naw, what really killed Clay was he admitted he hadn’t paid taxes in years.
She reflects poorly on the so-called “conservative” voters of Ft. Worth that elected her. Ft. Worth isn’t exactly Austin and they fell for her snake oil.
"Why does the Democratic Party love selfish women so much? ...Me first attitude. Thats what the Democratic Party is all about."
Long story short, they're Marxists. To them, motherhood is merely a fictional "concept" dreamed up by "privileged white males" to burden women and prevent them from achieving economic equality, the same way that white males supposedly intentionally seek to harm the poor and non-whites, yadda yadda. (Sure there may be "cosmetic" differences between men and women, but that's about it in their eyes.).
All one can do in this "system" is to reject reality entirely and to throw a loud, self-centered temper tantrum against nature...
