This is the first picture of nun and new mother Roxana Rodriguez.
The 33-year-old woman, a nun with the order of the Little Disciples of Jesus, stunned her mother superior and local church chiefs after giving birth last week to a baby boy which she has called Francis, in honour of the current Pope.
Sister Roxana initially claimed to have no idea that she was pregnant and thought her labour pains were 'stomach cramps' when an ambulance rushed her to hospital in severe pain after being called by fellow nuns when she collapsed at her nunnery.

I thought scripture said it was better for a man to marry then it was to lust?
I learned a while back not to get involved in these conversations here, they’re too volatile.
It was stupid of me to get involved in this thread so I will gracefully leave before it get’s ugly.
God Bless all FReepers.
Vows of chastity and obedience are voluntary. There are anglican nuns who I assume take vows of chastity. Chastity is different than celibacy. It’s a discipline, like fasting. As a mother of three and grandmother of one I can tell you that my prayer life when I was raising them was not as rich as it is now. A practicing Catholic if he were to be a priest and be married would practice NFP which while effective, usually results in relatively large families. Not a lot of time to minister to his flock. Our priest probably works an 80 hour a week. On holiday weeks I’m sure its longer. He routinely gets up in the middle of the night and goes to visit the sick and dying. He’s known for that.
“I don’t understand why when we were told to be fruitful and multiply the Catholic religion prohibits it.”
The Church has never prohibited it. Celibacy in service to the kingdom of God is voluntary and praised by Christ Himself.
ah, I see how it happened now. the nun looks like a little boy.
On one hand she broke her vow of celibacy, on the other, she did not use birth control. Seems like she’s batting .500. Cut this nun some slack.
Uh oh, where’s that heat coming from.
The calling to be celibate and chaste (assumed but not always observed) evidently is a higher calling. It is a tradition in both the east and west. In NT times bishops were required to have only one wife. So clergy were allowed to marry. Forcing celibacy in order to be a priest hasn't seemed to work very well in our times. In eastern orthodoxy priests can be married when they enter but not after, I think. And to be elevated to bishop, one cannot be married.
Thank you for the education!
Wow: ! another virgin birth; another Queen of heaven
Your comment is absolutely spot on.
“she has called Francis, in honour of the current Pope. “
Can he account for his whereabouts last April?
Humans are humans and according to the churches, God invented sex - for every living organism - not just humans.
It's not up to any ecumenical organization to try to undo that.
Let me try, and not necessarily from a cannonical viewpoint.
In the event a Pastor or other religious is considered 'available' (and for some, matrimony is no barrier), they are open to the complicating sin of lust, from within or through being the object of the temptations of others. While I am not saying that doesn't happen to some lesser degree, pastoral duties would be significantly less complicated by the absence of such, the ability to be more unbiased maintained, clique-ishness reduced, etc.
By eliminating that temptation the Pastor (Priest/Nun) can concentrate more on the community as a whole.
I am a bit confused. The article says she became a nun just last September. It also says that her “dalliance” occurred in March or April of last year in El Salvador while renewing a passport.
SO! Presumably she was NOT a nun at the time of this conception, correct? If so, then she didn’t break any vows at all that I can see? Perhaps I have missed something here?
Oh my.
the level of discussion here has deteriorated.
Look up the Bible verse to which you are referring and put it into context.
And get the speaker correct.
Me thinks they should sneak in marriage vows before they open the second box of pampers.
“Wow: ! another virgin birth; another Queen of heaven”
Nope. I’m pretty sure this was due to old fashioned sexual intercourse. And there’s only one queen in God’s heavenly court and she’s already there - since the Assumption in the first century.
But if posting comments that make you look foolish make you feel better, by all means, continue.
“The whole idea of nuns and priests being celibate is nonsense to me.”
It wasn’t nonsense to Christ, however. That pretty much settles the matter then.
