Why are you always picking this phrase out of context?

Why do YOU ALWAYS ignore all of the bad things Putin has done?? All you do on this site is post butt licking articles and comments on Russia and Putin.

It is not that Snowden had clearance to “a large number” of NSA programs, it is that he took EVERY THING - meaning he had access to EVERY NSA program ... no way, Jose. There were cases were even the Director himself was shut out on need to know basis. This is why Snowden is such a huge prize for the Ruskies, comparable to what they did to Britain in the 50s and 60s ... maybe even bigger.

If what you say is true, then why didn't the Russians or whomever not just take the info? Why go through a big charade with Snowden fleeing around the globe? Anything could have gone wrong with that convoluted plan. No self-respecting security service would approve such a plan. It makes no sense.

I don't think anyone put Snowden up to it.

Well its not only out of context, the original quote has a different wording compared to the version you are presenting:

Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century. As for the Russian nation, it became a genuine drama. Tens of millions of our co-citizens and compatriots found themselves outside Russian territory. Moreover, the epidemic of disintegration infected Russia itself. Individual savings were depreciated, and old ideals destroyed. Many institutions were disbanded or reformed carelessly. Terrorist intervention and the Khasavyurt capitulation that followed damaged the country's integrity. Oligarchic groups – possessing absolute control over information channels – served exclusively their own corporate interests. Mass poverty began to be seen as the norm. And all this was happening against the backdrop of a dramatic economic downturn, unstable finances, and the paralysis of the social sphere. http://archive.kremlin.ru/eng/speeches/2005/04/25/2031_type70029type82912_87086.shtml

Also from your link and prefacing the remarks you quoted...

I consider the development of Russia as a free and democratic state to be our main political and ideological goal. We use these words fairly frequently, but rarely care to reveal how the deeper meaning of such values as freedom and democracy, justice and legality is translated into life.

From the Associated Press:

“First and foremost it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” Putin said. “As for the Russian people, it became a genuine tragedy. Tens of millions of our fellow citizens and countrymen found themselves beyond the fringes of Russian territory.”

From BBC News:

“Putin deplores collapse of USSR:
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has described the collapse of the Soviet Union as “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe” of the 20th century.”

You can’t 100% discard a version of Snowden being a Russian agent but it is a really pretty much unlikely due to a way it happened.

yep. With the different stories of how our government seems to search out these people, it made this story more interesting to me.

No, I’m not trying to point to grand conspiracies but it does make me wonder what the use of the NSA is—it seems they may have wanted to keep an eye on a kid who had hacked government sites.

Hey jerk, I just posted the original quote for you, from the AP and BBC News. Plus it IS a FACT, a very disturbing one to any normal person, that 20 million or more people were killed living under communist Soviet Union rule.

Tell me, Putin butt licker, does it not bother you in the least that Russia supports and/or arms nations hostile to the US, such as Iran, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, Syria, North Korea, the ChiComs, Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba and other Latin America marxist/socialist dictatorships? That many Americans have died because of this support?

I'm curious...does it bother you that an official transcript of the 2005 speech shows the quote differently than how it has been 'reported' in western media for years?

Is your faith and trust in AP/BBC so strong that you blindly accept their interpretation of the speech and reject all others?

Why are you so vehement in your attacks on anyone who dares question the orthodoxy of your posts, which essentially just regurgitate western liberal spin?

Do you ever question anything that is "reported" and if so why not in this instance, especially when there is sourced contradictory evidence that's been presented?

In fact this speech was aired live. You can find and listen it on-line.
Of course it is not needed if you prefer to believe AP before your eyes.

Even **IF** it wasn’t the precisely same quote, there is no way in hell that anyone with a soul could say that the collapse of that mass murdering system was a “disaster”.
