Link to video: Kabul restaurant attack: UN reaction to Taliban strike Two Britons and two Americans were among at least 21 people killed when a suicide bomber and gunmen attacked one of Kabul's most popular restaurants.
The head of the International Monetary Fund's Afghanistan office and three UN staff of the were also killed in the attack on Friday evening, along with the Lebanese restaurant owner, several Afghans, and two Canadians.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in the well protected district in Kabul where most foreign workers live and work.
A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the restaurant, killing guards and destroying defences and allowing two gunmen to enter and open fire.
The Foreign Office named one of the British victims as Dhamender Singh Phangurha, who is better known as Del Singh, a Labour candidate for the European elections. The other Briton has been named as Simon Chase from County Londonderry, who was the bodyguard of a Danish, female police officer who was also killed. A spokeswoman said she did not believe there were any other British injuries.
Kabul police chief Mohammad Zahir said the victims included 13 foreigners and eight Afghans; two Britons, two Canadians, a Malaysian, a Dane, a Russian, two Lebanese, a Somali-American and a Pakistani. At least four people were wounded, and about eight Afghans, mostly the kitchen staff, survived.

Probably being in afghanistan isn’t a good choice. You n ever know when those moozlums will want to spreed their religion-of-peace.
“two Britons, two Canadians, a Malaysian, a Dane, a Russian, two Lebanese, a Somali-American and a Pakistani”
And all these people were casually eating in a restaurant in Afghanistan—as if there isn’t a war on?
Why did so many non-Afghans congregate together in one place? What were they thinking?
That because they weren’t soldiers in uniform they were safe and wouldn’t be targets?
They were elites and everybody knows you don’t mess with elites.
They were likely thinking that because there hadn't been civilian attacks in so long they were safe.
Kabul isn't filled with violent attacks every day. A lot of the violence takes place outside of the city. But perhaps now that Obama is talking of pulling out, the attackers will get bolder.
Hey, Hillary, what difference does it make?
UN and IMF people killed. The Afghans must be getting tired of their stuff. A lot of 3d World nations would love to off the IMF
IIRC, both the UN and the IMF are very involved in redistributing the wealth of workers to the deadbeats and they are staffed with “elites” who think they should be telling the rest of us how to live and taking our money in order to “do good.” I don’t wish death on anyone, but I would like it if the “elites” learned from this that their meddling is not wanted. It’s not wanted by the producers and apparently not by the thugs, either.
I would like to know how much the well-connected profit from their policies vs. how much good they actually do.
Any place that admits Afghans without searching them first is unsafe.

Casually eating in a restaurant as though it wasn’t in a Muslim country as well...
