Historic clash: Obama, Rand Paul fight over privacy — and Paul Revere
Washington Times ^ | 1/17/14

Posted on 01/17/2014 3:43:30 PM PST by Nachum

President Obama on Friday cited Paul Revere as one of the earliest American intelligence-gatherers, riding through the streets to warn of impending British raids.

But Sen. Rand Paul disputed the president’s take on the iconic Revere and his overall understanding of the American Revolution.

“He mentioned Paul Revere, but Paul Revere was warning us of the British coming. He wasn’t warning us the Americans are coming,” Mr. Paul, Kentucky Republican, said on CNN just after the president concluded a speech in which he outlined changes to U.S. surveillance and data-collection efforts.

Obama twists history to suit his mood. There is some religion that does that a lot. Can't think of it at the moment....

Obama twists history to suit his mood.

Not to mention, his low info constituency is too stupid to think for themselves to question the logic of his arguments.

It’s amazing that Bammy’s only vocal opposition (in the political class) is Cruz.

What's all this NSA data collection about?

It's about using the collected metadata to build social networks.

The NSA has been creating maps of American citizens' social networks

Why do they want to do that? What could social networks be used for in the hands of government? Consider:

Using Metadata to Find Paul Revere

How will such capabilities be used now? How They Hunt

Is it already too late?

And people thought Sarah Palin had garbled the Revere story?

Paul Revere warned the American people about an army coming to go to war against them. I would put the NSA in that category today. One if by drone, two if by satellite.

In 2007 patriot Paul Revere would have no doubt been warning “the commies are coming, the commies are coming”.

The real impact of the Snowden revelations is yet to come.

There are many people engaged in a mad scramble to create secure web services based outside the US. The illegitimate snooping by the NSA has created a public that is hungry for security.

There are people working on new forms of secure communication tools with hard encryption that has not been weakened by the NSA. RSA is a dead man walking...done for.

Smartphones are coming under intense scrutiny, the firmware is especially suspect and the lack of hard encryption is a glaring fault. We need smartphones with open hardware and firmware.

There will be a move to secure silicon, this means integrated circuits of all sorts and especially processors and SoCs (system on a chip) will soon sell well only if the public can be assured they are not back-doored.

I think the days of back-doored routers, bios chips, HD controller boards, operating systems..etc are numbered.

The network is going to go dark, no more easy pickings for the NSA.

Open-source is our friend, Stallman was right all along. Hardware and software that is not open is not worth having.

Free people deserve privacy.

Far be it from me to question the President’s knowledge of history (he is breathtakingly ignorant). Kudus to William Dawes, the only known rider to have made it to Concord. And to Longfellow, who made Revere famous, said to be in hopes of stressing the urgency of abolitionism. Revere has more rhymes than Dawes..To the unknown riders, there were more than 3. And for the administration, the fact that at least one of the unidentified by name was a woman. Paula Reveres ride, that would be worth votes.

Obama is the kind of person about whom Paul Revere tried to warn us.

Yup, it was Paul Revere who called our ancestors to bear arms against the “Agents of Tyranny “- - - - the British Military.

Today “The Agents of Tyranny” are Obama’s NSA, DOJ and IRS.

Hitler was elected, and Obama was elected.

Hitler had his Gestapo, and Obama has his NSA, DOJ and IRS.

FORWARD !

Paul Revere - Arguably the first FReeper - he didn't even have dial-up but he had a horse
and made historic use of it.

Paul Revere was a silver smith who could ride fast and detested the British interference with his trade.

He did warn that the British were coming, but he hardly would have spied on his own countryman to benefit a foreign powers benefit, as Obama does.

Obama is in the pocket of the Saudis. And we need rid of him.
