Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is taking aim at movie producer Harvey Weinstein, calling the studio head a hypocrite for slamming the NRA, but using violence in his own films.
Citing Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film “Kill Bill” — which Weinstein produced — the Texas senator said the sword fight at the end of the movie is “one of the most epically violent scenes.”
“But you don’t see people wanting to ban knives,” Cruz said Thursday on Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”
Cruz’s comments follow news that Weinstein — who co-heads The Weinstein Company production house with his brother — wants to target the NRA in a new film.

“I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on, and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein told Howard Stern on the latter’s radio show Wednesday, according to audio from Mediaite.
Cruz slammed Weinstein for living in “a fancy neighborhood with all sorts of police protection.”
“He says he doesn’t own a gun, but I bet you there’s a good odd that he has armed security around him,” Cruz said.
Cruz called Weinstein’s movies “left-wing propaganda,” and said “Hollywood liberal elites, they have their view of things.”
“We have a right to protect ourselves. It’s protected in the Constitution. Even if liberal Hollywood types want to take it away, it isn’t going anywhere,” Cruz said.
Cruz added that he sees the similarities between Washington and the West Coast.
“It’s the same pattern we see in Washington. It’s a double standard. It’s one rule for thee and one rule for me. So liberals love to live by special rules,” he said.
“Comparing ourselves to gratuitous violence is not solid ground to stand on.The point
The point is point out hypocrisy In this case I see very firm ground
ugh! i so agree with you... i am glad that Ted Cruz is taking on Hollywood... but i do not think this film works in this scenario... i am glad you said it! i have to admit, i was afraid to bring it up... i do think he is right in calling out on Weinstein's hypocrisy--likely having armed security...
Pffft... whatever. Weinstein is delusionally self important.
Old Harv and Skanky Meryl want to make money.
yes! i wish Ted Cruz would have used any one of these instead of Kill Bill... Harvey Weinstein, like his liberal Hollywood cohorts, is a hypocrite... actually, like all liberals... Hollywood, DC... it doesn't matter...
A live action fantasy Manga comic book. But it was pretty neat how Kiddo was able to carry her Hattori Hanzo sword alongside her on her trans-Pacific flights.
The film will undoubtedly be nothing bout a propaganda piece without a shred of proof. And they will conveniently forget the fact that far less than 1% of murders are committed with so-called assault weapons.
Does Weinstein have some kind of guilt complex?
I can watch Band of Brothers, have seen Lone survivor twice just so far, Shooter, and a favorite Allegory, and an honest spoof, Killers, numerous times, for theme and character/virtue inspiration.
I was told I would love Reservoir Dogs, and finally gave in.
It is a disgusting, depraved Hell movie, with not one redeeming character, nor character trait. It has no theme. The violence is needles, gratuitous and over the top.
The box office guy told me, when I visited my elderly aunt and we went to see the movie, the box office guy, who knew her - she was a film buff- “no, you two do not want to see “Pulp Fiction”.
I never have, and I never will.
Disgusting.
Can conservatives just stop opining on what these guys ought to be saying?
The biggest bunch of, “oh oh don’t rock the boat” ers out there.
He has a valid opinion and view and he’s willin gto back it up in every way.
Weinstein is like a disgusting pig, and Meryl Streep calls him ‘god’
Pigs.
Talk about it. Geeze
The only thing that Hollywood gets right about guns is that criminals always have them.
What a truly great and fearless man Ted Cruz is. A giant of a man. A true statesman.
If we had 10,000 of these guys we would be unstoppable.
"Which is a first in movie-making.... righty right ?"
i do not mind rocking the boat... i know Ted Cruz is on the right side of the argument... i like things to be done intelligently... i know Ted Cruz is intelligent... i think he could have entered this argument better... sheesh... there is little worse than a conservative being right about an issue but being wrong in his presenting it... i see it all the time... especially from hip-shooting conservative Christians... as a conservative Christian, i do not think it helps our cause... for what it is worth--i am not calling Ted Cruz a hip-shooting conservative Christian... i have the highest esteem for him... and i am talking about it...
...and theyre going to wish they werent alive after Im done with them.
Such hatred for a group dedicated to protecting a Constitutional right.
if we had just 100 Ted Cruzes!
Ted Cruz just won’t care what libs (including those in the republican party) say about him.
That’s the only winning stance, by the way.
“”The Kill Bill movies were total crap!”
Agree totally. Tarantino’s “ninja/samauri” phase was the low point of his career. The only good part of Kill Bill was the Japaneese girl band singing the “whoo-whoo” song. “
Gee, sorry to learn that! I like both #1 and #2. Not exactly War and Peace for sure. As others have stated they’re a spoof with lots of satire and a comic book look them. But, nevertheless Weinstein is a hypocrite no doubt about it no matter how you slice it.
meryl streep means chik flick means never watch it.
after her diatribe to target “saving mr. banks” as a petty cat fight stab, she pretty much put herself in the streisand lunatic camp.
